Dew Crisp now seeks to employ a Quality Control Manager to lead a dynamic quality control team.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Technical Management
- Quality Management
- Staff Management
- Manage health and safety
- Maintain general housekeeping
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
Corporate Policy
• Implement Corporate Policy by ensuring that objectives relevant to the department are communicated to all staff members
Food Safety and Quality
• Ensure that food safety & quality procedures are adhered to through traceability
• Ensure that food safety & quality is not affected by production demands
• Ensuring the cold chain is maintained
Product Specifications
• Keep all specifications (raw materials & packaging) up to date and draw up new specifications as needed.
• Assist in training staff on production specifications
• Responsible for obtaining correct specifications for product being packed
Technical Reports
• Ensure discrepancies are trended and corrective actions are implemented
• Document Control
Trials
• Ensure that trials (shelf life – organoleptic) are completed when required
• Compile reports from information obtained in trials
Non- Conformances
• Ensure that corrective actions and preventative actions are communicated to Quality Controllers and implemented
• Assist with the root cause analysis for customer complaints and non-conformances
Service Providers
• Assist in contacting service providers when required – (Scales - If scales are faulty/ Pest Control - If pests activity is a concern)
• Laboratory - If swabs are needed/ micro results are outstanding/ incorrect sample reference used
• Assist in co-ordinating external calibration of measuring equipment.
Customers
• Ensure that latest specifications are obtained from customers
Audits
• Assist in audit preparation
• Assist in recording of corrective actions for audit findings
Suppliers
• Implement supplier quality assurance
• Maintain and improve on the supplier quality assurance program by liaising with suppliers on quality issues.
Internal Audits and GMP Audits
• Ensure that monthly internal audits are done as per schedule
• Assist in completing appropriate corrective actions for internal audits
• Ensure that monthly GMP audits are conducted
Supervision
• Schedule Quality Controllers workload
• Schedule and conduct meetings with Quality
Controllers
• Conduct performance reviews with Quality Controllers when required
• Timekeeping of factory staff, manage leave forms, sick leave and absenteeism,
New Product Development
• Assist with full NPD process of new products
GMP
• Ensuring that general housekeeping is maintained
• All products to be stored off floor on pallets and away from wall
• Packaging material to be stored away from raw material on floor
• Products to be packed in correct packaging material and labeled correctly (batch numbers)
• Equipment to be returned after shift in a neat and good condition
• Management of cleaning equipment
Factory Rules and Regulations
• Ensure that all staff follow factory rules - discipline/report staff that do not follow factory rules
Preventative Maintenance
• Report machines that need repair or maintenance to Maintenance manager
• Assist in minimising processing equipment breakdowns
• Ensure that all machines are assembled and that start up checks is performed before start of shift.
Development, Implementation and Maintenance of HACPP System
• Attend HACCP Meetings
• Be aware of all procedures and policies
• Assist in identifying and process that could pose a food safety risk
Food Security
• Ensure that any threats to food security are highlighted and reported
Health & Safety Measures
• Minimise safety incidents
• Assist where needed in risk assessments for department
Facilities department
As part of this role the incumbent will also be responsible for the facilities department. This department consist of one Co-ordinator, one supervisor and nine cleaners.
• Ensure and maintain accurate stock levels regarding all PPE and chemicals
• Liaising with all relevant suppliers.
• Meetings with department staff
• Scheduling of duties
Assist in Other Departments
• Assist in all processing areas where ever necessary
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• 3-5 years as a Quality Manager /Senior Food Technologist
• At least 2 years’ experience in leadership role
• Sound knowledge and experience of Total Quality Management Systems & Standards (e.g. ISO 9001)
• Sound knowledge and experience of Food Safety Standards (ISO 22000, FSSC, BRC, HACCP, PRP's)
• Food Factory GMP's and monitoring & inspection thereof
• Sound knowledge of and experience with laboratory and on-line analytical test methods & maintenance of instruments
• Friendly & Professional Supplier & Customer Relations
