KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To measure, quantify and verify the following during construction, and approve bill related claims.
? amount of work done,
? materials used,
? area covered,
? time spent and
? rates applied
MAIN KEY RESULT AREAS INCLUDE:
? Verify bill of materials for Civil Works for invoicing, estimation of claims, cost of inventories, vendor
billing, etc.
? Verify financial aspects of contracts during construction and upon completion of projects
? Prepare rate analysis arising out of variation orders related to Civil Works.
? Provide quantities for invoicing and contractual claims if required.
? Work out construction quantities from Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings.
? Review quality documents to check compliance/conformity of claimed quantities against job
specifications (for example
? batching schedules, material test certificates, cube testing report, compaction test report etc.).
? Monitor and compare actual work executed against purchase order, contract, tender quantities and
project costs to ensure
? alignment to project scope.
? Prepare & maintain variation order reports.
? Coordinate cost reports and statistics of the Works, periodically.
? Certify quantities for payment purposes.
QUALIFYING ATTRIBUTES:
Qualifications
? BSc/B Tech Degree in Quantity Surveying
Experience
? 5 - 8 years’ experience working in construction industry
? Working experience conducting the following activities:
o On-site construction observation and management
o Quality assurance and control of civil works activities
o Verification of bill of materials for Civil Works
o Estimation of claims
o Variation comparisons
o Excavation and back filling
o Piling work
? Must have worked with civil 3D models, form work and structural steel, reinforced concrete and steel
designs
Professional Memberships/Registration (if any)
? Professional Registration with South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) will be an advantage

Knowledge
? Use of civil engineering measuring equipment and their application- total stations etc.
? Knowledge of the following standards:
? SANS – South Africa, CSRA – South Africa, COLTO – South Africa, BS Standards, ASTM Standards,
ASSHTO Standards, ISO 9001 Quantity management system, FIDIC – 1990 Red Book,SANS –
Testing Methods SA,Testing Methods SA - TMH and TRH series.
