Salary: R30 000 Cost to Company

A Risk / Safety Officer facilitates compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and guidelines and provides advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations whilst on the constant lookout for violations on site.

The main objective of this role is to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.

Duties:
Manage the entire risk function for 3 sites
Implement policies and procedures in line with company procedures
Conduct internal audits and create action plans to close out any findings
Facilitate external audits and create action plans to close out any findings
Presentation of statistics and various risk reports
Compiling training budgets and identifying training needs
Administrating training needs and updating Health and safety training records
Liaison with Occupational practitioner and arranging pre-employment, annual and exit medicals and any other Occupational Health requirements
Administration and controlling IOD incidents on site
Liaising with Hospitals, service providers and Management
Conducting site inspections
Identification of potential risks and implementing repairs.
Dealing with maintenance staff and ensuring that all relevant paperwork is received, and jobs completed as required
Conduct and manage health and safety meetings with the health and safety committee
Liaison with Employees, Supervisors and Managers
Monthly reporting to National Risk Manager.
Apply risk management methodology
Implement safety measures to decrease health and safety risks
Ensure the business is compliant with air emission and chemical standards as set out by government
Ensure the business is SABS and SANS compliant
Ensure compliancy records are up to date
Perform ad-hoc duties as required by Management

Minimum requirements:
Minimum of three years’ experience in a general Risk | Safety capacity, ideally in a manufacturing environment
Suitably qualified with either a Diploma or Degree
Able to understand and apply risk methodologies
Strong planning, analytical, organisational, and administrative skills
Possess in-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and be able to interpret and implement the relevant legislation
Possess broad knowledge of the National Environmental Management Act, specifically the Air Quality Act
