RESPONSIBILITIES

* Reporting to the Portfolio Head: Health, Community Services & Inclusivity, the incumbent will lead local government in providing solutions and improving performance in the area of development & enforcement of by-laws, supporting overall law enforcement , supporting the protection of municipal assets and infrastructure in relation to theft and vandalism.

*Provide ongoing analysis of the key challenges, needs and trends in area of Community Safety, Policing and Enforcement, to ensure that local government strategies and programmes are appropriately designed (with regards to both policy response and effective models of service delivery)

* Representation on key platforms related to the development of integrated communities; provide high quality advice on the legislative and regulatory framework of local government in particular, and of the role and impact of the other spheres of government at the local level, on those issues pertinent to area of Community Safety, Policing and Enforcement

* Provide management, legal and constitutional advice and support to municipalities; facilitate the implementation of the capacity building strategy and associated programmes in municipalities; facilitate training programmes/ peer learning sessions in the areas of focus/ professional discipline

* An appropriate postgraduate qualification
