SENIOR METALLURGIST
Our client, a Blue chip company based in Vanderbijlpark has a vacancy for a experienced Senior Millwright with the following:
Skill and qualification required
• Grade 12/N3
• Tertiary Metallurgical qualification is a requirement
• Preferably at least 10 years’ experience in Iron and Steel environment

Duties
Duties will be, but not limited, to the following:
• Ensure all laboratory personnel follow procedures
• Update and control all procedures and work instructions
• Ensure good maintenance of technical database
• Control and procure require consumables for the laboratory
• Ensure good housekeeping in all aspects of the laboratory
• Ensure that calibration for spectrometer and other laboratory equipment is done timeously according to procedure
• Verify deviations identified on process sheets, heat reports and, heat treatment graphs and take necessary corrective and preventative action
• Knowledge of all foundry and machine chop processes for example charge makeup, melting, casting, moulding, hot strips and heat treatment (quench and loading), etc. This would require frequent witnessing of the various processes.
• Statistical analysis of production (foundry/Heat treatment/charge make-up) and laboratory test results
• Correlate laboratory test results with production parameters
• Verify and control analysis microstructure done by junior personnel.
• Initiate and complete NCRs (i.e. immediate action, root cause, corrective actions, preventive action)
• Do metallurgical investigation on failures and customer complaints.
• Initiate and follow through on change requests
• Understand and know how to operate the thermal analysis (ATAS, TEC-TIP) equipment on the foundry floor if need to assist due to personnel constraints
• Identify deviations of parameters of equipment at foundry and heat treatment during shop floor movement
• Know and understand charge makeup and correlation with melt out analysis to ensure adherence to procedures
• Assist in control and quality of scrap received (Spot checks on the quality of scrap received)
• Assist in quality of alloys used (i.e. setting up PAS, review offered materials, handle concessions, inspections)
• Incoming inspection of raw materials
• Compile of data sheets and process sheets
• Assist with customer inquiries for costing and evaluation of possible orders
• Communication with mould design to ensure correct placement of samples as required by international specifications.
• Handle testing outside the Company (i.e. getting quotes, placing orders, selecting samples, witnessing of tensile, bend, impact, or any other test required
• Any other work is required to ensure quality and effective material flow through the Company.
• Train laboratory assistants and metallurgists in training to reach full potential
