Engen is an oil company focusing on the downstream refined petroleum products market and related businesses. The company’s core functions are the refining of crude oil, the marketing of our primary refined petroleum products and the provision of convenience services via our extensive retail network & we currently recruiting for SHEC Specialist.


Purpose:

Drive best practice in SHEC across Southern Africa in order to maintain licence to operate and generate competitive advantage. Support the creation of a best-in-class safety culture for the South Africa Near-asset discovery programmes and deliver and support SHEC systems.

Typical Tasks:

• Maintain the Southern African SHEC management system, in compliance with the Exploration SHEC Way and ISO 14001/OSHAS 18001
• Ensure Legal Compliance in Operating countries
• Ensure SHEC Way requirements are met for all Southern African projects, with a particular focus on drilling operations
• Support the implementation of GDG’s SHEC strategy
• Coordinate and participate in internal SHEC Management System audits and peer reviews
• Maintain Engen SHEC Database (Enablon) for Southern African and ensure the timely, complete and accurate capture of required data
• Investigate SHEC incidents, identify root causes and corrective actions, ensure closure, and share key learnings
• Identify Southern African SHEC leading and lagging indicators, identify key trends/ issues and make specific recommendations. Coordinate the timely compilation of Discovery Group SHEC reports
• Lead the development and implementation of annual South Africa SHEC Improvement Plan (SIPs)
• Foster an open and transparent SHEC reporting culture

Formal qualifications:

Essential:

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety, and environmental protection, or related scientific disciplines.
• Alternatively, higher level diplomas in the same discipline, but with a higher level of practical experience
• Workplace Training and Assessor qualification

Desirable:

• Advanced first aid and/ or emergency response qualification

Role-specific knowledge:

• African experience in management of exploration SHEC programs
• Proven experience working on or adjacent to operating mines
• Proven experience in drilling rig safety
• Experience in the implementation of Safety and Occupational Health Management Systems
• Practical experience in first aid and/ or emergency response in exploration environment
• Proven experience working with communities and other stakeholders to maintain licence to operate and explore

Safety:

• Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values
• Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety

Other requirements to perform the work effectively:

• Travel to site where necessary
