Our client, a leading Chrome Mining giant is looking for an experienced and qualified SHEQ Specialist (Standards, Research and Development) at their facility in Mooinooi near Rustenburg in the North West province.

Description

Job Responsibilities:

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:
Ensure the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (Act No. 29 of 1996) safety and health standards are maintained
Ensure SHEQ compliance through effective use of the toolbox
Utilise Information System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report on SHEQ status
Comply with MHSA / SANS Codes / Regulations

CUSTOMERS:
All employees in the Plants, Mines, Engineering and Shared Services
Ensure Customer Satisfaction.

BUSINESS PROCESSES:
Conduct risk assessments on current and future mining practices
Analyse health and safety as well as environmental impact related to the introduction of standardised / new practices
Lead the revision or establishment of mine standards
Participate in the development of training material related to research and development
Organise and facilitate “as-is” business processes mapping
Develop “as-is” activity tables from business processes
Engage with key operational stakeholders and benchmarking associates to determine operational requirements, defects and deficiencies
Establish focus areas and scopes
Conduct benchmarking exercises related to focus areas identified
Attend conferences / mining expos and conduct site visits to identify best fit practices
Compile full studies related to global best practices as benchmarked with supporting documentation
Identify alternative options related to new / standardised practices earmarked for possible implementation
Develop “to be” business processes and activity tables aligned to benchmarking recommendations
Development of best practices earmarked for implementation
Presentation and facilitation of best practices for approval initial
Identify specific sites for best practices implementation
Test the effect of best practices implemented and document findings for key learnings
Amend practices where necessary aligned to key learnings.
Manage the implementation of tried and tested practices as part of a formal roll-out programme
Lead the development of new / revision of existing practices
Development of policies, procedures and standards to govern newly / revised practices
Develop systems and processes to monitor best practice compliance.
Highlight all non-compliance aspects
Participate in implementing corrective measures
Ensure that all best practices introduced are incorporated into training material and audit criteria
Review of audit findings related to best practices
Resolve all outstanding audit findings related to best practices
Negotiate partnerships benchmarking and auditing associates
Establish service level agreements with benchmarking and auditing associates
Provide benchmarking and auditing associates with key learnings obtained from trials and roll-outs
Liaise with, build and maintain healthy relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate and guide the effective implementation of new / revised practices
Resolve or escalate stakeholder queries related to new / revised practices

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Degree or Diploma related to the position
Safety, underground, engineering and plant experience

Additional Qualifications (Advantageous):
Risk Management
Incident investigation
ISO Systems exposure(45001 & 14001)
COMSOC
Relative experience in mining processes and risk assessment techniques
