Senior Actuarial Specialist (Special Projects)

Provide actuarial services to the life entities in the Rest of Africa consolidating and explaining the life financial results.

Special Projects investigation:
• Take note of items raised as issues for investigation during the valuation period.
• Investigate in detail until the problem is fully understood and a suitable solution is found
• Implement solutions and where appropriate process changes so that problems do not reoccur in future valuations
• Liaising with both the in country actuarial, finance and operations teams as well as with the South African teams which support the Namibian business
• Understand and document how the fund accounts are drawn up and how the models relate to the accounting numbers
• Enable better liaison between the SA teams who use the same models and processes to ensure consistency
• Setting up better processes between valuations to enable automation of some of the results
• Detailed understanding of the custom-built Prophet models, plus other models, for calculation of liabilities, embedded value and capital in various African countries
Business Planning/ Forecasting
• Support the team that provides forecasting and ongoing monitoring (outside of valuation periods) of the financial impacts.
General
• Ensure that all actuarial processes are performed as efficiently as possible, finding and delivering continuous process improvement and standardisation opportunities
• Ensuring processes are performed with appropriate controls

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• 11 actuarial exams
• Four years’ experience
• Strong technical skills and experience in a valuation role
