POSITION: DIVISIONAL TAX SPECIALIST – SOUTH AFRICA
INCUMBENT: VACANT
REPORTS TO: DIVISIONAL FINANCE DIRECTOR AND GROUP TAX MANAGER

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Responsible for the ongoing tax compliance for the companies within the allocated division (South African businesses). Work closely with businesses to help prepare and submit both Income Tax (Including WHT, STT and other direct taxes) and VAT returns on an ongoing basis. Collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to ensure ongoing compliance for PAYE, Customs and excise where applicable. Prepare the monthly Deferred and Income Tax calculations for the companies within the allocated division. Engage and monitor ongoing tax compliance for the South African legal entities by continuously engaging with the various business finance heads and Group Tax.

• Manage tax audits with both South African Revenue Services (SARS) and the company's auditors
• Work closely with the businesses and manage communications received and sent from/to SARS
• Prepare the businesses’ monthly, semi-annual and yearly Income Tax and Deferred Tax calculations
• Prepare the tax notes for the consolidated Annual Financial Statements to ensure timely reporting to the
• respective stakeholders
• Register newly acquired legal entities for corporate taxes
• Keep up to date with tax legislation, tax case law and any items published by the South African Revenue
• Services (Rulings, Interpretation Notes etc.) and assess possible impact on the businesses within the allocated division
• Regularly participate in internal tax technical training sessions
• Conduct tax technical research and advise business on various tax queries raised
• Prepare monthly tax computation for month end reporting purposes
• Calculate and prepare provisional tax payments
• Completion and filing of annual tax returns
• Review and completion of annual transfer pricing documents
• Perform quarterly mock IT14 SDs
• Take part in ad hoc group tax projects
• VAT
• Prepare the VAT return and schedules supporting the VAT return, submit the return and pay the necessary
• tax due to SARS
• Perform VAT reviews as part of statutory audits
• Address VAT reviews and audits from SARS
• Perform monthly VAT reasonability tests

CUSTOMS AND EXCISE

• Work with the Procurement team to reconcile the quarterly imports and exports data to the data per VAT and
• Income Tax/Trial Balance
• Ensure retention of all necessary documents

TASK DESCRIPTION:

• Prepare the Income Tax and Deferred Tax calculations businesses monthly
• Provide training to the South African businesses on various tax matters
• Work with the South African businesses to manage various communications received from SARS on an ongoing basis
• Actively manage the businesses' relationship with SARS
• Assist with the preparation of all the tax financial statements disclosure notes
• Assist the Group from a tax point of view with ad-hoc projects
• Advise the South African businesses on operational tax queries
• Assist with rolling out and embedding various tax processes and controls across the Group
• Meeting South African transfer pricing requirements
• Interaction with stakeholders in implementation of new tax legislation
• Managing relationships with external tax advisors and internal & external auditors
• Assist businesses maintain all tax records
• Other ad-hoc tax and accounting responsibilities

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Great written and verbal communication skills
• Good knowledge of SARS rules and regulations
• Detailed knowledge of South African tax legislation
• Knowledge of various domestic and international taxes
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Good knowledge and understanding of accounting for tax and deferred tax
• Listed company experiences preferential
• FMCG/Pharmaceutical experience preferential
• Large Multinational Group experience preferential
• Preference for experience of working within a tax team of a large industry or in an advisory role to large
• multi-national clients
• Must be comfortable dealing with the various direct and indirect Corporate taxes

EDUCATION:

• B.Com Honours Tax and Tax qualification necessary
• Tax consulting experience in one of the big four auditing firms
• 1 to 2 years tax experience
