ESTIMATOR

SKILLS: National Diploma, CCS proficient, Site Experience

Note: This is a CIVIL construction position, NOT building construction.
This is NOT a QS position - this is a Tender Estimator position and site experience is a NOT negotiable.

Purpose of Position

The estimator is responsible for determining how much a project would cost, how long the project would take to complete and how much revenue the project should generate. The estimator takes into account factors such as labour costs, material costs, equipment rental, manufacturing locations, facility costs and required permits and licensing. The estimator works closely with the project site agents and contracts managers to make sure the project meets all financial and regulatory guidelines.

Accuracy of tender output data
1. Study tender requirements and communicate requirements to all staff involved;
2. Calculate and verify all quantities in tender documents, and communicate discrepancies to division director;
3. Compare tender specifications against standardised specifications;
4. Attend site inspections; clarify all matters requiring clarification and compile detailed site inspection report with photographs and video recordings for use in tender compilation.
5. Continuously verify all work done by the staff prior of submission of tender document;
6. Verify and identify the preferred suppliers;
7. Analyse supplier quotations for responsiveness;
8. Capturing of preferred supplier prices in tender database;
9. Perform accurate calculations to submit a competitive tender price;
10. Present completed tender pricing to division director for scrutiny and approval;
11. Develop, maintain and development of master resource pricing database

Maintain & update supplier data base
1. Assist and oversee maintenance of existing supplier data base.
2. Constantly source new suppliers that comply with all statutory requirements;
3. Regularly liaise with suppliers to maintain and improve relationships;
4. Train internal personnel on sourcing quality suppliers.

Maintain & improve record system
1. Maintain and improve the tender identification system;
2. Maintaining of accurate tender records for future project implementation;
3. Sourcing of new and alternative tender prospects to be added to the existing client database
Planning & programming of tender process
1. Diarise all required activities pertaining to each tender individually;
2. Monitor compliance with planning and programming process;
3. Communicate timeframes of each tender to all responsible personnel;
4. Regular progress report to division director;
5. Timeous submission of all tenders;
6. Obtain and distribute tender results;
7. Follow-up on allocation of project

Training & development of staff
1. Identify specific training needs;
2. Investigate available training on an on-going basis;
3. Train and develop subordinates
