Kuruman sometimes referred to as ‘the fountain of Christianity’ or ‘Oasis of the Kalahari’, lies in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District of the Northern Cape. It has roughly 13,000 residents and Afrikaans is the most commonly sopken language. Kuruman is infamous for its ‘Eye of Kuruman’, the largest natural fountain in the southern hemisphere. The water that is been brought up forms a lake in the centre of this tranquil town. A great variety of fish can be found in the area, but fishing is strictly prohibited. Another beloved attraction in Kuruman is the Kalahari Meerkat Project, where the behaviour of meerkats are being studied.
