Good day, my name is Ryan Linton Jarvis. I live in the beautiful town of Hout Bay, South Africa. My formative years drew me into a fine art energetic and had me pursue becoming a fine artist. I finished high school at an art school with a 100% pass rate for fine art and graphic design from the South African National School of Arts. Links and images on request. After finishing high school, I decided to study Fashion Design instead of Fine Art, with a desire to design and fabricate wearable art. My studies did not manufacture a keen, young fashion designer, but, rather, had me explore fine art further. I managed to create a name for myself as a fine artist and became moderately successful. However, I very much needed to elevate my understanding of a creative business model, client P.R., marketing and I desperately needed to discover how to expand my ability to work and conceptualize at the pace required. This personal requirement led me into the tattoo industry, of which I was an apprentice for 4 years. Even though I grew so so much from my time in the tattoo industry, the craft ended up not being for me. Exiting that world was a dark time, but, thankfully, it was just the primer I needed to discover leather craft. I apprenticed for a company called Mystic Tribe who introduced me to leather and the film industry. For 8 years I designed, fabricated, taught and led teams in S.A.'s film leather costume and props department. Some of which can be seen on Facebook at Muse and Alchemy. I absolutely loved and thrived being in the film industry and my desire to produce wearable art had come to fruition. Unfortunately, COVID lockdowns and severe power cuts in my country have completely obliterated the film industry here. Fortunately for me, during my film years, and by chance, I started making a name for myself producing high end leather interior elements. Cladding, surfaces, bespoke features and upholstery. I've been focusing on the high end leather industry for the past several years and I'm now on the precipice of producing my first range of leather accessories for both humans and pets. Leather is such a complex, in-depth and varying discipline and it's where I've found my true passion. Besides conversations with my wife of 21 years (2023 when written), my very very favorite conversations are with other leather crafters. Being a leather craftsman is an obsession bordering on an O.C.D. complex. It's, to me, the best, most wholesome obsession.
