YOLANDA BARNARD-LEMMER Journalist, public relations specialist, writer, orator, teacher, social media content creator, copywriting, PROFILE I have been a well-known media personality for the past 15 years. I worked at several South African newspapers covering beats including but not limited to agriculture, lifestyle, entertainment and local politics. The highlight of my career was winning a Mondi award for popular journalism in 2011. I was involved in countless social media and advertising campaigns (whether as writer or actor), presented a television show, and has written a well-publicised book. My qualifications include a B-Tech degree in Journalism along with a honors degree in Media Studies, backed by various short courses in social media management, editing and proof reading. After I left the newspaper industry, I did a brief stint as a full-time academic lecturer. I, however, never took a gap year and in 2016, I packed my bags and headed off to China where I taught English and Drama to Chinese students of various ages, as well as holding the position of English editor for an expat magazine called The Red Star. In turn, my natural knack for languages led me to take up courses in Mandarin, and I am presently able to proficiently converse with Chinese tourists – albeit very slowly! After a year abroad, I decided to “immigrate” back to my beloved South Africa – the country of my skull – an exodus that would herald the genesis of a freelance career in journalism, strategy development and public relations. I also abetted with the research for a lifestyle show (Liefde Sonder Grense) aired on KykNET. Overall, I am a highly accomplished writer, an excellent teamplayer and a highly creative individual.
