Freshmark is Shoprites fruit and vegetable acquisition and distribution section. Not only does it supply fresh produce to Group stores within South Africa, but also to other outlets in various parts of the continent. Currently, Freshmark is one of the biggest buyers of fresh produce in South Africa. It also imports fruit and vegetables to guarantee a variety of fresh produce. It provides stores with 586 different fruit and vegetable product lines. Freshmark supplies the entire “Padkos” range of 72 Dried fruit, nuts and snack\ items and 31 of the “Homemade” range of items too It operates its own network of distribution centres and refridgerated trucks; intercedes production contracts with 459 large and small scale farmers in South Africa and as well as 354 suppliers in the 11 African countries. Additionally it intercepts fruit and vegetables on the international markets, and plays a vital role in aiding beginner farmers with the know how and skills to produce and meet international standards.
