Actuarial Valuation Manager
Johannesburg and Cape Town

The role is responsible for leading the valuation team consisting of 8 – 10 actuarial analysts.
The team is responsible for producing financial results for published and regulatory reporting and to extract insights for business consideration.
The manager is responsible for review and delivery of results and needs to build close relationships with various internal stakeholders.
Reporting to the Finance Actuary of Personal Finance, the role requires sound technical knowledge of Financial Reporting requirements and Personal Finance Products, with strong planning and delivery focus.
The role also requires team management and coaching of team members.

Production of Financial results for published and regulatory reporting:
• Leading the team producing results with responsibility to ensure sound and accurate reporting of all financial metrics and inputs into capital and solvency requirements.

Business Partnering:
• Extract insights for business consideration and collaborate effectively with both business and specialized areas across all levels, providing specialized valuation input where required.

Business Planning / Forecasting / Monthly reporting:
• Provide input to inform forecasting and business planning

Reporting Capability:
• Ensure processes and models are efficient, robust and fit for purpose.
• Drive synergies and standardization and ensure the control environment is adequate and effective.

Projects:
• Support the delivery of relevant projects objectives as and when these arise.
• Ensuring valuation function, models etc. are set up for IFRS 17
• Provide mentorship, leadership and training to the team

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• A qualified Actuary
• Minimum 8 years technical experience
• Strong technical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong Financial reporting and/or valuation experience
• Knowledge of Personal Finance environment, products and systems
• Experience leading a team
• Ability to communicate effectively to diverse technical and non-technical audiences (written and verbal)
• Ability to collaborate effectively with others, with strong stakeholder engagement skills
• Self-motivated and energetic individuals who enjoy the challenge of tackling complex issues
• Ability to work on a wide range of deliverables at once, drive projects to completion
• Strong sense of ownership, requiring minimal guidance and proactively seeking for solutions
• Ability to gather a wide range of information, filter and then use in making sound and balanced decisions
