Petra Diamonds is a leading independent diamond mining group and an increasingly important supplier of rough diamonds to
the international market.

Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Lead Planning, this role will be responsible to provide leadership, expertise and direction to the
Group Project Planning and Management function to enable the implementation and management of robust, fit for purpose Project
Management system that is agile, guided by industry Best Practice (PIMBOK,) is based on mitigating risks (ISO compliant) and
that will deliver the optimum plans within the limits set by the relevant stakeholders with due care to Health, Safety & Environment
(HSE) requirements to ensure safe, cost effective project planning, execution and transition to steady state. The position will be
based at Cullinan Mine (near Pretoria).

Responsibilities:
Responsible for creating / revising Project Management Guidelines and Project Procedures.
Identify and initiate strategic projects which can include all infrastructure related to sustaining current operations or accessing
and exploiting the new mining blocks (what should be done, the benefits, who should do it, ensuring quality).
Responsible to manage and ensure standardisation and new technology strategy (e.g. automation or ground handling designs).
Responsible to co-ordinate Life of Mine (LOM) expansion projects, other expansion projects, SIB Projects and schedules.
Execute / Do feasibility studies and co-ordinate or assist with trade-off studies and above threshold SIB Projects (depending on
where the expertise lies and the cost of the projects).
Consult with Group Leads and Operations (Mining, Plant, Technical Services, Engineering etc. and get sign-off on designs,
schedules and costing.
Review all design layouts, schedules, services and costing.
Co-responsible with Lead: Planning for Project Design (design, schedule, cost,) execution initiation and hand-over.
Develop, own and control the budget for Group Projects.
Provide input and oversight to the operations capital budgets in order to provide assurance to the GM and the CTO.
Responsible to advise /decide on contract type selection and participate/ lead contract negotiations
Provide related technical expertise and Project Management skills to the operations; advising on technical solutions to
enhance or ensure the effectiveness of the operations.
Maintain an industry-wide perspective on major trends, including macro-economic, consumer, regulatory, technology,
distribution channels, product and competitive trends, industry best practices, and identifying potential strategic and financial
implications for Petra.
Responsible to implement best practice methodologies.
Organisational capability: Ensure capacity and bench strength of functional talent pool by coordinating, directing and leading
Project talent across the group:
Provide technical guidance and input on Project training programmes. Keep abreast of latest developments in area of
expertise.
Engage internal and external stakeholders on Project Management related matters, and support operations on Project
Planning and Execution.
Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the Planning Function.
Ensure compliance to planning by tracking project and operational performance and advising Operational teams and EXCO on
any interventions required.
Responsible for the compliance to all relevant project documentation including designs, design approval, change management
and non-conformances.
Ensure that all Project Management reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules.
Conduct periodical audits in line with established framework and schedule, provide audit findings, and recommend
opportunities for improvement to the operations and CTO.
Monitor and evaluate performance against established strategies, frameworks, systems and programme, and identify and
advise on opportunities for improvement to provide assurance to the GM and CTO.
Responsible to conduct regular inspections concerning quality of development, installation and construction.
Participate in a sustainable process to identify, assess and rank project design, project execution and operational risk as these relate to the business and operations, in order to promote a risk-aware culture, ensure that any potential impact is understood, and facilitate effective decision-making. Design risk mitigation and provide this as input into the ERM program.
Contribute to the identification, analysing and interpreting of Planning and Design risks within the organisation and contribute to the design and implementing of strategies and systems to mitigate risk and to prevent and reduce loss of the organization’s assets. Provide this as input into the ERM program.
Responsible to co-ordinate project reviews and risk assessments to identify risks and implement mitigating controls.

Minimum Requirements:
B Degree or equivalent in Engineering / Mining Engineering
Mine Managers Certificate of Competence OR Government Certificate of Competence (Mines and Works)
Management Development Programme (MDP) or equivalent
Minimum 10 years Project Management experience on UG mechanised / massive mines – please clearly indicate on CV
At least 5 years’ experience at a managerial level
Computer Literacy in MS Office suite at an advanced level
Valid driver’s license
A Certificate/Diploma in Project Management would be an advantage

Review mine designs, ground handling systems, civil construction, equipment selection, staffing, schedules and costing.
