Our client, a leading Chrome Mining Group is looking for an experienced and qualified Logistics Manager at their Eastern Chrome Division in Steelpoort in Mpumalanga / Limpopo.

Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To lead the Logistics Team and manage all inbound & outbound logistic, material handling functions on Eastern Chrome Mines and to drive the safe and cost-effective execution of all logistics processes ensuring high quality final products.

BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY
Identify and assess level of baseline risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
Manage SHEQ compliance within the Department through effective use of the Toolbox
Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status
Stock quality control
Dispatch quality control
Security of product – mine/station

PEOPLE

Manage the Department:
Ensure an enabling climate/culture
Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
Labour complement in line with budget
Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Department
Manage performance against set targets and competencies
Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
Conduct recruitment interviews
Entrench Quality systems and procedures into the logistics value chain at the mines

CUSTOMERS
Ensure Customer Satisfaction – smelting operations in Samancor Chrome / Export customers
Interact with customers (smelters / export) and be familiarise with operational concerns and any inherent peculiarities
Provide customer service and ensure customer satisfaction and competitive practice throughout the mine environment
Resolve customer (smelter/marketing/export) quality queries and complaints
Manage relationships on mines with all key suppliers and stakeholders
Ensure agreed transport rates are implemented and escalate deviations
Liaise with Transport and Yellow equipment suppliers and deal with all logistical issues.

BUSINESS PROCESSES

Logistics Strategy:
Ensure the safe and environmentally friendly operation of the Logistic processes
Deliver against set KPI’s
Manage the Logistic team and processes across the mine
Implement proactive quality systems and procedures
Ensure the Quality standards are maintained of final product
Align overall Logistics strategy between Mine, Plants and export customers’ expectations
Liaise with Group Logistics and site GM to ensure effective and efficient process flow

Logistics Management
Manage the monthly loading plan – broken down into weekly / daily targets
Optimise the usage of loading facilities at mines
Optimise the usage of Rail and Road transport
Manage all aspects of yellow equipment / material movement at mines
Rail station maintenance, and loading at the stations (no demurragement costs)
Weighbridge management

Supplier Management
Review existing arrangements to drive down TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) for both Samancor Chrome and suppliers

Reporting
Provide monthly report on key indicators as per agreed with Group Logistics

GROWTH
Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence
Develop growth opportunities in cooperation with Mineral Resources and Mining
Identify opportunities for improvements, both on costs and operational efficiencies, within the Logistic structures

Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Logistics / Business
5 years’ relevant experience, preferably 3 years’ managerial experience (important that the incumbent has Chrome Commodity knowledge)

Additional qualifications:
MBA would be an advantage
