Our client, a leading Chrome Mining Group is looking for an experienced and qualified Logistics Superintendent (Chrome Ore Exports) at their Corporate Office in Morningside, Sandton in Johannesburg.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To manage part Domestic and the Marketing Logistics pipelines in accordance with Transport planning including the Sales and Production Plans. To continuously improve current practices, methods and processes in order to exceed current Logistics targets and reduce costs to the company.

BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY

Identify and assess level of issue based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox
Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

PEOPLE
Manage the Department:
Ensure an enabling climate/culture
Manage performance against set targets and competencies
Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
Conduct recruitment interviews

CUSTOMERS
Customer Relations:
Render the right service first time
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
Maintain and enhance Samancor's reputation as a reliable and reputable supplier

Suppliers Relations:
Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers
Resolve logistical issues (Ports, Road Transporters, Shipping lines, Port Vendors, Rail, etc.)

BUSINESS PROCESSES

Marketing Logistics Strategy:
Assist in developing and managing the Marketing Logistics strategy including Domestic rail

Policies and Procedures:
Initiate and develop Marketing Logistics Policies, Procedures, Standards, Protocols, Work Instructions, Codes of Practice, etc.
Manage the implementation of these policies and procedures

Process Management:
Manage the usage of Port, Road, Rail and Storage facilities
Evaluate and negotiate terms, conditions and rates with all service providers
Clearing and Forwarding Agents
Container Shipping lines
Inspection companies
Implement and manage Service Level Agreements
Maintain contractual documentation and systems
Monitor and control the Marketing Logistics stock levels and movements within the Logistics pipeline
Ensure that the Marketing Logistics pipelines are optimally utilised and that waste is minimised

Quality:
Manage the Total Quality Control system

Reporting:
Compile and report on Logistics costs, Final Sales; Product quality, transport (rail and road) performances. Compile departmental score card
Analyse Marketing Logistics trends and reports
Bulk Exports – scheduling / Planning – 2 Mines
Ensure monthly shipping plans are executed with minimal carry overs
Container Exports – Scheduling / Planning – Dry Foundry
Container Ferro Export – Scheduling / Planning
Manage all pre-financing shipments as per contract requirements avoiding financial penalties
Manage all Local Ore Movements - M’loy
Ore Domestic Rail – Capture max volumes per existing contract and find opportunities to increase Volumes in line with cost saving initiatives
Ore Domestic Rail – Capture max volumes per existing contract and find opportunities to increase Volumes in line with cost saving initiatives
Manage the use of Road economically in line with cost saving initiatives
Ensure Quality material dispatched and shipped and manage deviations.
Transnet Rail Service Level Agreements – Take or pay contract

Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence
Initiate and implement the integration of improvement projects

Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
Degree or National Diploma preferably in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
6 years’ relevant experience in the mining and smelting environment, preferably 2 years’ managerial experience
