An international company requires a qualified and experienced Packaging and Specifications Technologist. This person will be reporting to the Packaging Development Manager.

Job description:

• Liaise with various internal departments and suppliers from concept creation to product launch
• Develop cost effective primary and secondary packaging solutions through innovative and integrated approach
• Maintain and optimize packaging format in relation to the latest market requirements and industry trends
• Evaluation of new packaging materials and concepts by running robust trials and applying product shelf-life and travelling test studies
• Ownership of technical specifications, regulations of the Trade & Meteorology Act and barcode EAN requirements
• Lead Projects and develop and manage close working relationships with relevant stakeholders, both locally and internationally
• Provide factories with technical support in understanding quality issues, closing gaps and providing input on projects.
• Constantly communicate with procurement teams and buyers at the plant with regards to progress and issues relating to packaging development and to ensure that new pack designs are technically viable.

Requirements:

• Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Science or Engineering
• Minimum 3-5 years R&D experience within FMCG environment;
• The ability to compile detailed reports and the implementation of recommended packaging solutions
• Ability to work under pressure to achieve ambitious targets and meet tight deadlines
• Good business acumen and ability to work cross functionally with strong interpersonal and team working skills
• Strong ability to work with and interpret technical data.
• Project management experience in an R&D environment;
• Creative problem solving and sound analytical skills
• Knowledge of technical processes, principles and legislation (including HACCP and GMP)
• Qualifications – required – preference will be given to candidates that have packaging development qualifications and/or experience.
