Our client requires the service of a Packaging Sustainability Officer is responsible for supporting packaging sustainability by assisting Managers with designing and specifying sustainable packaging technologies and providing specialist packaging input to ensure standards are met in line with the Group’s Packaging sustainability targets.

Key performance areas:

? Ensure the accuracy of the information on the packaging database, which will be used for the annual Integrated and Sustainability Report.
? Compile packaging specifications for new and existing packaging.
? Assist with solutions to packaging consumer complaints and non-conformities.
? Form part of the packaging team to encourage the best practices and deliver against the Sustainability plan and governance set out by the Group Packaging and Group Sustainability departments.
? Work closely with vendors and suppliers to obtain packaging information to meet the EPR requirement.
? Record packaging information and usage across divisions within the Group to support EPR scheme reporting.
? Report progress on packaging databases to the Group Packaging Manager.
? Work closely with stakeholders on projects and communicate the requirements of Group’s Packaging strategy during project meetings.
? Support strategic projects, which have the primary goal of advancing key Packaging Sustainability goals.
? Assist the NPD Packaging Manager, to design and develop disruptive, game-changing sustainable packaging technologies, providing full materials characterisation and understanding, relating material properties to performance
? Track packaging sustainability progress against stated goals via key metrics in line with the Packaging Sustainability strategy.
? Document data, results, and financial implications in detailed reports and presentations.
? Complete trade visits to monitor our packaging performance, keep abreast of latest sustainable packaging developments, innovations, and trends and track competitor activity.
? Support Group Packaging Manager with reports or presentations regarding packaging for internal or external requirements.

The successful candidate must have:

? Matric with a Relevant Diploma/Degree in Packaging Technology or related qualification
? At least 3 years’ experience with packaging
? Sound understanding of packaging development, processes and environmental issues
? Solid understanding of current sustainability trends, technologies and legislation
? Must have Up-to-date technical knowledge of printing and manufacturing processes for packaging
? Proven track record of well-established working relationships with external suppliers and industry experts both locally and internationally
? Good understanding of technical administration, including packaging specifications with good understanding of buying processes and the retail industry
