Job Description
The Technician will be able to run fibre optic cables underground and perform premises cabling. Conduct regular inspections of fibre optic systems and locate and repair defects. The main duty of the technician is to install and repair fibre, a technology the uses threads and glass as a means of transmitting data.

These cables have the capacity to carry more data when compared to metal cables. They are also less susceptible to interference, thinner, lighter, and allow for the digital transmission of data.

Customer interaction also plays a large role in the technician’s day, and fibre optic technicians must have an acceptable appearance (for example, clean and professional) and be comfortable interacting with customers.

All technicians are also responsible for promoting company services and ensuring customer satisfaction. A technician should possess a strong knowledge of their company and all the services that are offered. A fibre optic technician position is physical, requiring the technician to climb and crawl in small spaces.

Good working knowledge of hand and power tools is needed in this position; The company provides their fibre optic technicians with the tools that will be utilised for the job. Aerial and Satellite City cc., only accepts candidates with at least good analytical and problem-solving skills. The fibre optic technician must be a self-starter with the capability to work under pressure and independently. The technicians will spend the day travelling to different locations and client sites.

Installations, troubleshooting, and maintaining all fibre optic systems in businesses, homes, schools, and other organisations to ensure that they are working properly.
Measuring the signal strength of television, and internet connections to ensure that there is adequate performance.
Creating sensors and performing inspections to make sure that the fibre optic systems do not have defects that could undermine performance.
Conducting regular inspections of the systems with the aim of locating and repairing any defects detected during the inspections.
Performing premises cabling and running fibre optic cables underground.
Determining solutions to any problems and issues that are preventing the fibre optic systems from performing optimally.
Constructing a proper splice case as well as preparing and maintaining records, diagrams and schematics relating to the splice case.
