Systems Administrator
Location: Westlake, Cape Town
Salary: Market Related
About the Role:
The Systems Administrator is responsible for all aspects of systems administration for the cloud-based environment including servers, applications, and databases. This includes implementation, configuration, coordination, control, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, usage monitoring and the development of specialized system procedures. This individual will be part of a 24x7 operations on-call rotation for a US Client so some flexibility regarding the time zone is required.
Requirements:
5+ years system administration experience on Linux and Java
Bachelor’s degree with a technical major in IT/Computer Science
Experience with Linux, Apache, J2EE, Oracle, and python architectures
Experience in deploying and maintaining systems with high-availability requirements
Experience supporting hybrid infrastructures hosted in conventional datacenters and public cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform
Have worked in a company providing SaaS with high availability requirements
Experience working in organizations compliant in security programs such as ISO 27001
Experience with automating in public cloud-based environments using tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible
Experience with LDAP, single sign-on, SAML, OAuth, and Office 365 Azure
Experience with security monitoring and system hardening
Understanding of network topology and concepts such as TCP, UDP, VPN, routing, and switching; ability to troubleshoot network problems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Able to participate in on call rotation providing 24x7 support
Some travel may be necessary
Duties:
Monitor and manages system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain operating efficiency
Monitor of system resources, including memory, CPU usage, and disk utilization; ability to troubleshoot response times to maintain operating efficiency
Write or modify basic scripts to resolve problems and automate systems administration tasks using bash or PowerShell
Maintain operational, configuration, and other procedures and documentation
Perform or assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing production problems and correct identified problems
System and application patching and vulnerability mitigation
Experience managing services in a production Docker cluster, ECS or EKS preferred
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned
