Job Description:

Understand and execute orders given by Head Office and Factory Management.
Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies/tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
Coordinate with and consult with Management including Factory Management to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations.
Review and analyse specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
Account for time and work completed.
Perform visual and dimensional inspections to verify compliance with specifications.
Make routine decisions and use problem solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues or seek assistance.
Compute mathematical formulae to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery, using computer-assisted equipment.
Position instructions and comments onto drawings.
Actively participate in all aspects of Product Development when and where this may be required.
Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
Design scale or full-size blueprints of specialty items.
Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials.
Understand the Part Number system to develop new part codes as required.
Lay out and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.
Confer with customer representatives to review schematics and answer questions pertaining to installation of systems.
Draw freehand sketches of designs, trace finished drawings onto designated paper for the reproduction of blueprints, and reproduce working drawings on copy machines.
Supervise and train other draughters, technologists, and technicians should the need arise.
Lay out, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
Collect initial drawings, calculations and design ideas from engineers, and combine all relevant data into coherent and complete initial design models for review and modification.
Coordinate directly with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements, verify design details and recommend modifications as needed according to company standards and best practices.
Assist in ongoing project to standardise and unify design document standards by participating in meetings and preparing presentation materials as necessary.
Travel to the Factory on occasion.
Adhere to all standard conditions and requirements specified in the employment contract.

Qualifications:

Must speak Afrikaans
Competent user of Microsoft Windows computers.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications particularly Word, Excel and Outlook (email).
Expert user of 3D modeling Package example SolidWorks
Must have a strong mechanical design background.
Must be proficient in the use of 3D modelling software. Preference will be given to candidates that are proficient in SolidWorks.
Minimum one year experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly desired.
Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measuring equipment.
Basic ability to read and understand standard drawings.
Flexible and responsive with a strong teamwork orientation.
Good verbal communication in English.
