Our client, who is an actuarial consulting firm that specialises in delivering data warehouse, business intelligence and reporting solutions to clients in the healthcare, insurance and related industries. They are looking to expand their IT team with certain specialist software development skills. Requiring the skills and expertise of an Analyst Software Developer (T-SQL) This position reports to the Software Development Team Leader. In turn this team interacts closely with the Actuarial and Clinical specialists within the business who will generate data and reporting requirements.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12
• Successful completion of either BSc Computer Science of B Com Informatics
• 2+ years of demonstrated computer experience appropriate to the task requirements for this job
• Knowledge of data architecture principles
• Complementary Mathematical / Accounting background is considered an advantage
• Practical experience in a similar position would be preferred
• Working knowledge of relational databases, data and process flows and the documentation thereof, T-SQL software development skills, understanding of web and client-server concepts, and be able to rely on personal motivation and drive to accomplish and exceed set goals
  • Extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, and enterprise software applications.
  • Technical experience with systems networking, databases.
  • Good background in database design in Microsoft SQL.
  • Background in Microsoft .NET, Visual Basic, Excel, Word, Outlook and HTML
  • Working knowledge of server, data warehouse and business intelligence applications and environments.
  • Strong analytical, logical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of standards, procedures and guidelines to support operational processes.
  • Willingness to work occasionally outside of normal business hours.
  • Good English oral and written communication skills.
  • A results oriented individual who thrives working in a fast paced environment.
  • Requires a strong understanding of the flow of data throughout the business and a basic understanding of the processes performed on the data to transform this data to support client knowledge discovery

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Understand data contained in client database warehouses and identify data integrity issues with existing and proposed systems and implement solutions.
• Creation of the system design and functional specifications for all new development projects.
• Design, develop, debug, maintain and improve procedural T-SQL code used in our client and other Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• Be responsible for optimizing and streamlining T-SQL code.
• Provide SQL related software development for in-house IT projects.
• Write clean, accurate and optimized SQL query scripts against a variety of databases based on client reporting requirements.
• Verify database and data integrity.
• Be able to design and write ad hoc SQL queries and stored procedures to perform testing and assist other users.
• Provide SQL administration support in live and test environments.
• Assist in testing data at every stage of the load and reporting process.
• Assist in troubleshooting software application issues.
• Assist server administrator with application installation and testing.
• Effective at agile and deadline driven software development
• Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications and processes to meet changing user requirements
• Assist in writing technical procedures and documentation.
• Identify opportunities that can improve efficiency of business processes with own area of responsibility
• Taking accountability for obtaining data from clients, transforming this data into the format required and loading this into a database environment
• Optimisation and improvement of existing data load processes
