Have you recently completed your Chef training - you may even have had a little experience at cheffing in a hotel / guesthouse / on a yacht / cruise liner? A wonderful opportunity has arisen to join this luxury 5* guesthouse property in a prestigious part of beautiful Cape Town. Creating simple but original, beautifully presented and fresh dishes for breakfast and lunch with the occasional dinner and function on request – this is an ideal opportunity for an innovative, on-trend and enthusiastic junior chef to make their mark.

Candidate requirements:
• Recently completed Chef training at a reputable establishment
• Ability to cater and cook for up to 40 guests: breakfasts, baked goods, light lunches and dinners.
• Non-smoker with excellent personal hygiene and sober habits.
• Ability to keep a calm and even demeanour and engage with guests.

Job overview: In season, the Guesthouse has a constant flow of around 40 guests, this can subside to around 6-10 off season. The Chef will be responsible for:
• Replenish anything needed on the breakfast buffet during service so buffet always looks appetizing no matter what time of morning.
• Cook hot breakfast as per guests’ requests.
• Prepare cake / high tea items daily. These need to be creative and varied.
• Light lunches (for guests and owners).
• Dinners (for guests and owners) - on request.
• Any guests request (e.g. birthdays/honeymoons/picnics/braais etc.).
• Prepare turndown delights – to be changed daily.
• Bake homemade cookies for arrival, special events and travel agent room inspections.
• Prepare honeymoon platters, birthday cupcakes, etc.
• Help prepare for functions (which happen occasionally).
• Special meals for Christmas Eve and Christmas day and New Years’ Eve and New Years’ day – this attracts overtime, tips and enhanced
pay.
• Ensure kitchen and personal self are neat and tidy and hygienic at all times, with focus on health and safety.
• New menus and costings for all meals.
• Make all orders and arrange grocery shopping with another staff member. On the odd occasion you will be required to buy items directly
from the shop.

Hours:
Breakfast: 06h00-11h30 - Lunch: 11h30-15h00 - Dinner 17h00 -23h00
Set up the buffet from 6-7am for guests to be served at 7am latest. Therefore, punctuality is of extreme importance. On exception, a guest may ask for an earlier breakfast and you will need to accommodate them accordingly.
5 days off a month.

Recruitment process:
• You will be invited in to prepare a buffet breakfast followed by an informal interview then preparing a simple 3 course meal: starter, main and
dessert.
