Our client is the world’s leading primary producer of platinum group metals, producing 40% of the world’s newly mined platinum. Their Mining, Smelting and Refining operations are based in South Africa and they have exploration partners in Canada, Russia and China. They are seeking to employ a highly experienced and motivated CHIEF ROCK ENGINEER for one of their operations in the Limpopo area.

REPORTING STRUCTURE: The successful incumbents will report to the Group Rock Engineering Manager

THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE ARE ESSENTIAL
• COM Rock Mechanics Certificate [for Metalliferous Mines]
• 5 years experience in mining; rock engineering or strata control
• Demonstrated ability to meet technical and responsibility requirements of the legal appointment.
• Member of professional body (SANIRE)

ALTHOUGH NOT LIMITED TO, THE INCUMBENT’S MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
• Technical validity of planning, ensuring integration with other technical disciplines (geology; survey; mining; ventilation, SHE)
• Conduct and document accident/incident investigations and make necessary representation to the DME
• Compile and maintain mandatory Code of Practice to combat rockbursts and rockfalls
• Mapping of geological structures for geotechnical / rock engineering and mine design purposes
• Effective management of subordinates 1 – 3 strata Control officers/observers
• Conduct numerical modelling for the design of support and other excavations
• Effective Rock Engineering services to support shaft’s performance
• Effective implementation/administration of necessary systems
• Life of mine planning and scheduling
