CHIEF SCIENTIST(SYNTHESIS CHEMIST)

The purpose of this job is to manage and perform project work in the field of organic synthesis

CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Project and laboratory management
• Conduct project work in the field of organic synthesis
• Interpret research findings, write reports and present the findings
• Perusal and retrieval of relevant documentation for project work
• Procurement of chemicals and laboratory equipment
• Maintenance of laboratory equipment and troubleshooting

EXPERT ABILITY AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
• Minimum MSc (Organic Chemistry)
• PhD preferred
• 6-8 years' experience in practical organic synthesis, organ phosphorus and organo sulphur 2 compounds in particular
• Project management
• Sound knowledge of 1H, 13C, 31P NMR and GC-MS analysis (sample preparation, recording and interpretation of spectra)
• Good report writing skills
• Computer proficiency (MS Office)
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be able to work away from Pretoria for short periods
• Must be able to work under pressure
• Must be able to wear a gas mask when there is a need
