Full time limited duration contract of 18 – 24 Months with relevant benefits

Skills & Experience Required

• BSc in civil engineering
• Registration with ECSA as a professional engineer with proven experience in construction supervision of water supply systems in developing countries
• Minimum 12 years’ overall experience with 6 years relevant experience in the construction supervision of large water supply projects
• Experience in the use of:
o FIDIC (Red Book – 1999)
o FIDIC General Conditions of Contract (1999) – a minimum of 3 years’ experience
• Literate in English. Able to write letter and reports of a high standard
• Computer literate

Job Responsibilities
The Construction project cost is around R200 million

• Handle all aspects of a large civil works project i.e. the construction of lined storm water channels and some bridges, culverts, etc.
• Approve Contractors’ method statements
• Review Contractors’ construction schedules, monitor construction progress and report deviations
• Liaise with Health and Safety Manager, Social and Gender Specialist and Social and Environmental Specialists with regard to social, gender, environmental, health and safety plans, monitoring and reporting requirements.
• Liaise with Detail Design Engineer
• Record, report and propose actions to redress poor workmanship and defects
• Inspect all works in progress to ensure the quality of the works and compliance with the contract documents
• Oversee the Quality Assurance / Quality Control System.
• Review and validate application for payment submitted by the Contractor and advise of any adjustments, corrections and / or additions
• Review and validate invoices for payment submitted by the Contractors
• Review and evaluate claims and variations received from the Contractor
• Manage requests for information from the Contractor
• Management of staff such as Works Inspectors and support staff
• Provide input for monthly progress report
