A Commodity Supervisor vacancy exists within the Purchasing division at an international Automotive Manufacturing company. They are seeking a dynamic, suitably qualified and experienced candidate, with a passion for the world of Purchasing and who wishes to pursue a career in leadership.

MINIMUM Requirements

  • Have a relevant 3 year university degree/diploma in the following disciplines – Purchasing, Logistics, Commerce, Finance, Business Management or Engineering, -
  • coupled with at least 5 years relevant purchasing experience, preferably in the automotive or auto supplier industry.  
  • Previous leadership experience in a Purchasing environment will be an added advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, control and organize the achievement of your KPI’s and departmental objectives and create departmental business plans.
  • Plan, control, organize and motivate the activities of Buyers to achieve KPI’s and departmental objectives.
  • Ensure that employees reporting to you understand their role in terms of targets, quality, through-put and costs
  • Evaluate all commercial, specification, legal and delivery aspects of the Buyers work.
  • Assist, support, motivate and develop your responsible Buyers
  • Action or assist Buyers with negotiations /arbitration’s with suppliers or internal departments.
  • Ensure that employees receive accurate, useful and timeous information on their actual performance vs targets
  • Action and assist Buyers with immediate and remedial action to secure production if there are potential line stoppers.
  • Ensure employees are developed by means of training, thus enabling them to produce effectively
  • Develop and improve the quality and processes at PUR
  • Highlight, find solutions and address any barriers that may hinder the employees' performance, i.e. procedures, practices, etc.
  • Ensure that employees are equipped with and know how to use the correct / effective tools to do the job
  • Record and correlate required statistical data for Management / Departmental reporting.
  • Assist Buyers with the sourcing of components and the analysis of offers in terms of the part price and tooling
  • Analyse engineering changes and the offers related to this.
  • Establish cost benchmarking in the VW Group.
  • Pro-actively negotiate cost reductions to achieve business plan objectives.
  • Create Board level presentations and present at the Board if required to do so.
  • Identify and create export opportunities for local suppliers.
  • Develop plans/strategies to increase local content.
