Job Description:
A well-established FMCG company leading in South Africa is looking for a Cost Accountant to ensure the implementation, developing and executing strategy of managing and leading a team through difficult periods including month end, year end and annual budgeting, must have excellent communication skills with all levels of staff, often having to work with various departments to help them plan and manage their own budgets.

In periods of change and growth an effective a Cost Accountant is critical, coordinating corporate finance and managing company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity and acquisitions as appropriate.
Responsibilities
Inventory Control:
• Monitoring progress of month-end stock takes.
• Physically attend month-end stock takes.
• Monitor the aging of goods in transit.
• Analyse and investigate goods in transit differences.
• Compile, analyse and distribute stock reports to business units.
• Monitor business unit’s production declaration.
• Collect and review physical stock reconciliations.

Pricing Function:
• Update raw material pricelist for standard costs of new month.
• Update raw material costs in system for standard costs of new month.
• Analyse cost of sales pricelist for inconsistencies.
• Review of pricing investigations performed by stock clerk.
• Monitor cost price error list and input costs in system as required.

Variance Analysis:
• Compile and analyse purchase price variance (PPV) report for errors and reasonability.
• Ensure any corrections required by accounts payable related to the PPV are performed.
• Compile, analyse and distribute usage variance (UV) reports to business units.
• Ensure any corrections required by business units related to the UV are performed.
• Analyse stock gains and losses account for unusual variances or errors.
• Ensure any corrections required by business units related to the stock gains and losses are performed.

Maintain Bill of Materials:
• Correspond with stock clerk on all changes as well as new BOM’s related to specific area of responsibility.
• Ensure accuracy of cost in the system.
• Perform relevant checks.

Business Units Functions:
• Regular visits to business units.
• Query management with business unit managers and business unit admin managers.
• Provide training where required.
• Analysis business unit management accounts related to specific area of responsibility.
• Alert accountant of any inconsistencies.
• Provide support to accountant in resolving business unit queries relating to management accounts and expense reports.

Month-end Process:
• Meeting the required deadlines.
• Accrual of Transport on PPV.
• Standard PPV clearing Journals.
• Correction Journals if required.
• Loading of costing into the ERP system for different international countries.

Audit:
• Perform relevant sample collection for statutory audit.
• Availability to auditors during audit in respect of relevant responsibilities.

Goods in Transit (GIT):
• Prepare weekly GIT Report for distribution to relevant parties.
• Alert other costing colleagues to GIT issues that may influence their related areas of responsibility.
• Alert specific parties of excessive or long outstanding GIT items.
• Reconcile GIT account daily.
• Manage errors in account relating to dispatch and receipts of inventory.
• Process all journals required to correctly account for reconciling items prior to month-end cut off.
• Prepare report of aging of reconciling items per business unit.
• Compile final reconciliation upon completion of month-end.
Requirements:
B Degree

Very strong operational experience
