Our activities include litigation, research and advocacy to advance and promote the rule of law. We focus on protecting everyone’s right of access to health care services, basic education and sufficient food, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The candidate will assume responsibility for writing, undertaking research, commissioning, editing, publishing of articles and management of social media platforms.

Job Specification
• Writing articles for Spotlight
• Commissioning and managing freelancers to write articles for Spotlight
• Editing and publishing Spotlight articles
• Assisting with editorial planning and management of Spotlight
• Assisting with management of social media channels and the production of podcasts and printed materials
• Assisting with reports to Spotlight’s donors
• Assisting with various logistical and administrative functions relating to Spotlight
• Attending and participating in the bi-monthly staff meetings and organisational reviews.

Education
• A degree within the field of Journalism or related fields, directly relevant to the work areas of Spotlight.

Experience
• 5+ years practical work experience as a journalist at a tertiary institution, NGO or in the private sector
• Background in health or health related journalism is preferred, but not essential.

• Ability to multi-task, be flexible and adapt to the objectives and work areas of S27
• Good time management
• Good organisational skills
Languages
• Fluency in spoken and written English
• Knowledge of an African language is desirable

This is a full-time position, which requires the ability and willingness to travel and work outside of office hours to meet deadlines. The position is based at our Spotlight office in Claremont, Cape Town.
