Deputy Maintenance Manager - Powerplant/Turbines
Introduction
Ensure all plant maintenance is accomplished in accordance with authorized plans, procedures, schedules and budgets
Implement and manage cost effective preventative maintenance programmes to increase productivity of the Company

Permanent position based in Upington
Salary R700 000 per annum with medical aid and pension company contributions
Powerstation and Turbines experience
Purpose:
Ensure all plant maintenance is accomplished in accordance with authorized plans, procedures, schedules and budgets
Implement and manage cost effective preventative maintenance programmes to increase productivity of the Company
Direct Reports: Mechanical Supervisors, Planner and Electrical and Instrument Supervisors
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
Experience:
Minimum 10 years experience in maintenance Poerplant/Turbines - essential
3 years should be in the capacity of Maintenance Manager – essential
3 years should be in the capacity of Maintenance Manager of a steam turbine based power plant
Fully computer literate in MS Office
Knowledge of applicable legal requirements in SA
Knowledge:
SAP CMMS Experience
Root cause analysis knowledge
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
TPM Experience
Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental management system principles
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to analyze situations and solve problems
Able to work under pressure and willing to respond to emergency situations is essential
Has self-motivation and responsibility
Able to promote a culture of safety and to adhere to rules & regulations
Areas of Responsibility
Ensure implementation of effective and economical operating methods and techniques and identify technology changes which can be implemented to advance same
Develop and ensure implementation of plans and procedures to achieve safe operation, optimum availability and operating efficiency of the power plant in respect of the environmental applicable requirements
Keep updated guidelines and procedures
Organise and co-ordinate required technical training to enhance the professional skills of the O&M team
Encourage team members, provide guidance and promote staff development. Develop a highly capable O&M team
Ensure and direct implementation of efficient and effective maintenance methods and techniques
Analyse and study operating maintenance costs and take necessary measures as required
Establish and ensure maintenance of effective monitoring and reporting systems
Ensure maintenance and update of accurate records for equipment history files
Review and recommend mechanical/ civil maintenance methods and procedures
Confirm and approve all purchase requisitions initiated by Department and Section Heads
Control of outsourcing and suppliers for any maintenance and repair work, the sourcing of preferred local suppliers and spare parts
Establish long term strategic planning for all major maintenance activities
Approve recommendations for spare part purchases made by Dept Heads
Chair weekly meetings with Dept Heads to discuss operating conditions, maintenance progress and any difficulties and plan activities for the following week
Ensure maintenance is in line with the O&M contract
Receive and evaluate pertinent reports relating to cost and progress of maintenance activities on the plant and transmit analysis to the Maintenance Manager / Head of O&M
Control maintenance operations and take any necessary corrective action to ensure compliance with approved plans and budgets
Work closely with outside inspection and overhaul contractors and provide them with the necessary support.
