Mikateko Media is looking for a dynamic designer to work on some of our many exciting publications. An innovative, hard-working team player with experience in design and a well-developed capacity for grace under pressure will enjoy this challenge. An eye for detail, commitment to quality and the ability to think out of the box are further prerequisites. The ideal candidate has experience as a designer on a magazine and digital platforms and understands content marketing.

The position is based in Cape Town, with the appointee reporting to the Editor. The successful candidate ideally available to start immediately.

Responsibilities will include:
Designing magazine pages and special supplements
Preparing pages for repro and liaising with the repro department
Designing promotional and marketing pages as well as PowerPoint presentations
Creating backup disks for client and syndication
Proactively generating fresh design ideas
Creative input on magazine content

The following skills and experience are required:
A tertiary qualification in graphic design
A minimum two years’ experience in publishing
Excellent design skills and an eye for detail
A high level of computer literacy, including internet, e-mail, InDesign and Photoshop
An ability to meet tight monthly deadlines
An ability to work well in a team as well as to function independently
Flexibility
Grace under pressure
Good communication skills and the willingness to be a team player
Digital knowledge will be an advantage
A passion for travel and tourism, magazines, websites and social media
