JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent will be responsible for full vehicles maintenance and ensure vehicles are kept in an exceptional condition in order to ensure maximum availability.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Perform preventative maintenance services at regular intervals
• Overhaul mechanical components
• Fault finding and troubleshooting on vehicles, components, systems and equipment
• Recording of defects, repairs done and materials used
• Service 5th wheels, cimax coupling and manhole covers
• Tool/equipment inspections
• Test and repair all electrical components, scully system, off-load system & pumps actuators
• Ensure that correct decals are in place and correct barret couplings are in place for product
• Service pneumatic system
• Prepare vehicles for safe loading pass and COF certificates
• Complete job cards for all work done and return to Supervisor / Fleet Controller
• Tyre inspections / surveys and tyre maintenance (including tyre breakdowns)
• Job involves after hours and week-end work
• Assist in ad-hoc tasks as may be required from time to time


DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

DAILY TASKS
1 Plan all services of vehicles.
Vehicles to be serviced based on kilometres or time.
All vehicles to be have preventative maintenance done every 5,000 km
2 Check vehicles
5th wheel, Scully Sensors, Couplings, Decals
3 Ensure that all mechanical repairs are done.
Outsourcing will only be authorized after a justification and necessary quotes have been received.
4 All vehicles to be test driven by mechanic before handing over to the driver
5 Ensure that the Daily Vehicle Checklist is received for all vehicles.
Completed daily work schedule and job cards to be completed and handed to Supervisor or Fleet Manager
6 Ensure that all defects as reported on the Daily Vehicle Checklist are repaired prior to the vehicle leaving the depot
7 All breakdowns will be attended too by the workshop unless approved by Fleet Manager
8 Vehicle files to be kept up to date.
9 Keep proper parts records and order parts in time.
10 Ensure all tools are clean and kept safe
11 Perform tyre inspections / surveys and maintenance
12 Ensure that when leaving the depot the vehicle is in a road worthy condition
13 Ensure that the workshop area is neat and tidy

MONTHLY TASKS

1 All vehicles to be inspected at least once a month or every 5,000 km (whoever comes first) by the mechanic and a full vehicle check list to be
completed
2 All vehicles to be tested prior going to loading gantry for defected valves.
3 All safety equipment to be checked of each vehicle and documented

STOCK & EQUIPMENT
1 All stock and equipment to be checked and signed of on daily basis
2 Registers to be kept of equipment that has to be serviced (Compressor, tyre gauge etc.)

CONDUCT
1 In carrying out the above duties, ensure that a quality service is promoted by dealing with the customers efficiently and courteously.
2 That all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn and that uniform is correct, clean and tidy.
3 That the highest standard of safety and care is taken in every thing that is being done
Adhere to all applicable safety policies and procedures of the company


E. PERSON AND EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS

Qualifications / Knowledge:

• Qualified Diesel Mechanic
• Red Seal Certificate
• Advanced technical knowledge of diesel engines
• Extensive knowledge of all mechanical and automotive equipment
• Knowledge of air, fuel and hydraulic systems
• Basic auto electrical knowledge
• Advance fault finding
• License EC (Code 14) ; preferably with DGP
• Sound knowledge of equipment
• Minimum 3 years relevant experience
• Ability to carry out road side repairs
