contract appointment: 5 years

Inherent requirements:
A degree in Electrical Engineering [BSc Eng.(Electrical) / B Eng. (Electrical) / B Tech Eng. (Electrical)]
Registered as Professional Engineer (Pr Eng.)/Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng)/ Professional Certificated Engineer (Pr Cert Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (Proof of registration must be provided).
Five (5) to eight (8) years’ relevant experience.

Duties and responsibilities:
Ensure that the provisions of the Act and Regulations in relation to machinery are complied with in respect of every campus on which machinery is being used solely for the distribution of electricity and where any such demand is 10 MVA or more. Bloemfontein Campus exceeds 12 MVA.
Sign off and approve electrical engineer’s designs; advise and provide assistance to consultants.
Provide guidance to the Mechanical Engineering Division that functions in Projects, Maintenance and Energy Savings.
Compile standards and give advice relating to electrical designs and construction.
Design guidelines and update standards and specifications of material to be used in UFS installations.
Responsible for smaller electrical tenders or quotations where no consultants are involved.
Oversee and manage the design and maintenance of Fire Detection and Intruder Alarm Systems.
Manage electrical projects or electrical installation in multi-disciplinary projects.
Assist and guide UFS Project Manager where applicable.
Take overall responsibility for planning, installation and upgrading of existing and new MV and LV electrical networks on Campus.
Perform emergency switching of electrical equipment during damage to the electrical networks.
Responsible for application and implementation of planned power interruptions.
Responsible for the planning, initiation of energy efficiency as well as operation, management and upgrading of the exiting Energy Management System.
Compile relevant budgets.
Plan asset life cycle and manage existing electrical installations in buildings on campuses.

Recommendation:
Engineering Certificate of Competency (Government Ticket) or the ability to obtain such within three (3) years of appointment.
