Position: Electronic Hardware Engineer
An opportunity exists within the Engineering department for an Electronic Hardware Engineer reporting to the Hardware Engineering Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To research, design, develop, analyze, test and document products and sub-systems from specification to full release
- To design products that meet both internal and external customer requirements, design standards and specifications
- To identify issues and risks and develop plans to mitigate such issues and risks
- To provide technical mentorship and input in hardware development including architecture, high level design, validation, tool selection and documentation
- Provide engineering input including technical, costs, schedules and risks where required
- Provide support to relevant departments to address component obsolescence, alternative suppliers etc.
- Provide problem solving and technical support to relevant departments
- Interface with customers and suppliers to define/resolve specification(s) issues
- Interface with engineers, customers, or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects, products, specifications etc.
- Provide engineering training to both internal and external customers
- Review specifications both internal and external to ensure all requirements are clearly defined and understood
- Electronic hardware design to meet the requirements of both internal and external specifications
- Electronic hardware schematic circuit design and PCB layout
- Host and attend engineering design reviews, DFMEA’s and PFMEA’s
- Component procurement for alpha and beta prototypes
- Test and debug alpha and beta prototype builds to ensure designs meet requirements
- Generate and validate bill of materials
- Perform verification testing (Lab and simulation) including component level testing
- Generation of project plans
- Communicate project status and progress on a regular basis
- Ensure all ICR’s are fully evaluated and processed accordingly
- Conduct, Co-ordinate and track root cause failure analysis for production and field failure investigation
- Ensure all standard operating procedures are adhered to
- To ensure that all project file documentation is complete
- Keep up to date with the developments with respect to management systems; as well apply policies and procedures relevant
- To communicate improvement possibilities with respect to the management system to the relevant process owner or directly to quality & customer satisfaction and participate in improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualification & Experience
- Must be in possession of a BSC / BTech or equivalent electronic engineering degree
- 10 years’ experience in hardware product design and development experience
- 2 years mechanical engineering product design and development experience
- Project Management experience in a product design environment
- 2 years schematic design and capture
- 2 PCB design capture

- Change and control processes in a design and production environment
- Electronic RF hardware design
- Operate computer – assist engineering or design software or equipment to perform engineering tasks
- Circuit analysis and problem solving on designs and products
- Critical thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solution
