Roles and Responsibilities
We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to be responsible for Maintenance and Technical aspects of Operations of the company and its two associate companies. The company operates in the natural gas industry.
The position would suite someone with an Engineering or equivalent qualification with practical experience in the Mechanical/ Electrical field such as a Millwright with appropriate experience in the gas industry or industries that use gas.
• Develop maintenance plan for daily, weekly, monthly service intervals and implement the plans,
• Manage critical spares for all company equipment, purchase the critical spares and / or ensure that were spares are available in South Africa suppliers hold stock for the company;
• Implement a live integrated IT asset management and stock control system together with admin department
• Implement a health and safety plan for the company’s site and were the companies hold equipment on customers sites in conjunction with the SHEQ Officer
• Enroll yourself and your co-workers on the necessary courses to develop in-house expertise in approved by the Managing Director
• Set out distribution plan and implement the plan.
• Implement, monitor and manage PLC download connections from all customer sites
• Responsible for heading up the operations, logistics maintenance and Health & Safety aspects in the companies and on customer sites.
• Control the day-to-day activities and all aspects that are required in the operations, logistics and maintenance department.
• Ensure that all regulatory aspects relating to the activities of the companies are adhered to on an ongoing basis.

• Responsible for scheduled and emergency repairs at customer sites.
• Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, PLC and repair of natural gas equipment.
• Inspect, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties on PRMS and CNG equipment.
• Diagnose, maintain, repair and recondition hydraulic systems; diagnose and repair drive train components, belts, gears and chain drives.
• Weld, fabricate and assemble parts and equipment for Gas equipment; fabricate and modify tools as needed.
• Reconditions and replaces parts, such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings, using engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Direct and delegate workload to Technicians and Interns
• Develop and or understand real-time control system software for automated assembly systems, including the programming of PLC’s, Servo Controllers, Vision Systems and Point of Sale. Robotics,
• Develop and or understand human machine interfaces (HMI) using commercially available industrial products, SCADA nodes or custom GUI’s written in Visual Basic or
• Work with mechanical and electrical designers of OEMs to ensure the control system will meet performance, reliability and functionality requirements.
• Perform on site commissioning and start up by demonstrating system’s capability once the equipment has been shipped to the customer’s site.
• Set up and Implement a health and safety plan for the company’s site.
• Establish and implement HACHEM, ASME and Accord Dangereux Routier (ADR) requirements when necessary.
• Implementation and manage MHI and EIA requirements and recommendations on all sites.
• Appointed the responsible person for all SHEQ related issues
• Management and appointment of staff
• Controlling staff and contractors
• Conducting staff meetings
• Conduct and arrange training for staff when necessary
• Managing and coordinating gas supply targets
• Develop and implement KPI’s for all technical staff
• Complete performance appraisals

Skill Set
• Engineering or equivalent qualification with practical experience in the Mechanical/ Electrical field such as Millwright with appropriate experience.
• 8 years management experience
• 5 years’ experience in the gas (or related) industry
• Hands on technical experience working on natural gas pneumatics and hydraulic systems
• Hands on involvement with fault finding, maintenance, servicing and installation of equipment, installations of electrical systems & managing PLC’s that interface with equipment
• Must have pneumatics, hydraulics, motor, electric, mechanical and advanced PLC experience.
• Maintenance, operations and logistics planning training / experience
• Qualifications and certification to act as the companies’ health and safety officer
• Costing training / experience
• Can read plans and deal with bills of quantity
• Read and write reports and analysis information / mathematically good
• Very computer literate on Excel, Word and Power Point, MS Projects
• Very good attention to detail and can communicate well at all levels (Senior Management / Contractors)
• Able to research and gather information and set it out in a report
• Must have valid driver’s License and PDP Certification.
