Our client requires the services of a Food Technologist to ensure the development process of specific products from concept to launch

Key performance areas:

? Assist National Technical Manager with responsibilities
? Managing specific and various food categories nationally
? Monitoring of supplier food safety programs through a supplier database
? Liaising with suppliers
? Audit Supplier facilities if requested by manager or directors
? Approving & registering new suppliers
? Advising suppliers on food safety requirements
? Approving audit postponements
? Approving and working on electronic product specifications system
? Liaising with technical organizations
? Liaising with laboratories
? Managing and monitoring product testing of own categories
? Request Corrective action from suppliers
? Liaising with buyers and different divisions within the company on a national basis
? Collecting information from food suppliers regarding food safety and quality
? Ensuring that all food suppliers and products comply with regulations
? Visiting suppliers when necessary
? Managing suppliers audit programmes
? Interpretation of supplier audit reports and corrective action
? Making decisions of how to deal with difficult suppliers
? Taking necessary steps of when to suspend suppliers
? Interpretation of analytical / microbial reports
? Writing and managing allocated categories’ product analysis program
? Establishing microbial specifications where necessary
? Customer complaint summary reports and trend analysis
? Advise on technical procedure and analysis regarding customer complaints
? Quality Control and / or Quality Assurance of products
? Attending technical conferences and meetings
? Writing reports on related issues
? Writing programs, guides & policies for the group
? Pro-active response to food safety alerts

The successful candidate must have:

? Matric with a qualification in Food Technology/ Science/ Microbiology
? 4– 5 years relevant experience
? 2 – 3 years knowledge and experience of working in packaging and processing facilities
? ISO, HACCP, GMP and relevant food safety qualifications
? Knowledge of implementation and documentation of Food Safety within a company
? Food safety auditing experience in the food industry would be advantageous
? Retail experience and understanding buying and retail
? Basic cost calculations knowledge would be an advantage
? Knowledge of food regulations and legal aspects
? Knowledge of food safety standards
? Systems and process knowledge
? Functional and technical knowledge
? Computer literate (MS Office suite)
? Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
? Excellent time management skills
