A Global Cosmetic Company with Regional Office based in Johannesburg North is seeking a Fragrance Specialist to develop fragrances for pre-development and development projects for Sub-Saharan Africa:

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Preferable Master’s Degree with minimum 5 years of experience in cosmetic / fragrance industry.
  • Knowledge of the personal care market in South Africa, and ideally in the Sub-Saharan region globally.
  • Formulation / chemistry experience would be beneficial.
  • Hands-on attitude and entrepreneurial spirit would be a must for this role.
  • Good communications skills (extensive engagement with internal and external suppliers).
  • Knowledge of current / new technologies.
  • Knowledge of products, market trends and consumers.
  • Education related to sensory evaluation (BSc or other) advantageous.
  • Successful first experience in sensory evaluation: general knowledge of the study principles, management of a sensory panel, knowledge in statistics for results analysis.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Olfactive expertise - ability to unfold and analyze a note from a concentrate, using wording and mapping tools.
  • Olfactive expertise within finished good (fragrance analysis) and ability to detect incompatibility or stability issues generating bad odors to support to formulation lab.
  • Project management: ability to track several projects in parallel, ensure the flow of different steps as well as related timing.
  • Scientific / Technical excellence.
  • Creativity inspired by consumers.
  • Entrepreneurship for innovation.
  • Collaborative leadership for innovation.
  • Adopt a forward-looking approach to the development of fragrance collections for the region main categories being Hair, Body care and Deodorants.
  • Develop brand fragrances through assigned projects.
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of markets / trends / competition and conduct olfactory analyses
  • Provide business intelligence
  • Work closely with laboratories and purchasing to create authentic fragrances and provide the best value for money
  • Develop regional network of suppliers within the ore list validated at métier level
  • Provide marketing with a better awareness of olfactory issues.
