(Minimum 5 years’ Game Reserve Managment experience & a formal qualifiication - degree – crucial) OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:Safari JOBS is now searching for a MINIMUM 5 YEAR experienced Reserve Manager to lead and oversee the management and development of an approximately 9,000 hectare Reserve based in the Waterberg area . The ideal candidate would have extensive hands–on, practical experience and the proven ability of building a capable team and a track record of sustainable reserve management. The Reserve Manager will lead a small labour force and will oversee the development and management of the Reserve including veld management, anti-poaching and security, maintenance and management of the reserve infrastructure. This position will also ensure business growth through directing and managing business development activities to ensure these are delivered in accordance with the Reserve strategy.The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of managing and motivating the Reserve team.The Reserve Manager will report to the General Manager. KEY RESPONSIBLITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:Contribute to the development and refinement of Reserve’s vision and strategy Manage the implementation of the Reserve’s strategic and operational plans.Develop, review, and report on the Reserve’s strategy, ensuring the strategic objectives are well understood and executed by the team.Impact the sustainability of the reserve through development of new reserve income lines (game income and ecotourism) through sustainable use of the reserve infrastructure and natural resources.Present a budget for board approval and prudently manage resources within those budgetary guidelines according to company policy and within ethical corporate governance guidelines.Maintain and develop the Reserve culture, values and reputation in the market and with all staff, guests, customers, suppliers, partners and regulatory/official bodies.Build and lead an effective team. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Matric certificateValid driver’s licence and own transport.Must be fluent in Afrikaans, preferably as a first language.Formal and recognised professional conservation qualification in Wildlife / Nature conservation(Preferably post graduate / Master’s Degree)Minimum of five years as a Reserve Manager (NOT CONCESSION MANAGER PLEASE) on a private game reserve - preferably in the Waterberg area.Must have excellent people skills in order to interact with management, staff and guests.Will have to fit in with the culture and values of the Reserve.Must have experience in the management of bush mechanics, irrigation systems, road and dams, fencing, general building, plumbing, solar power and electrics.Must be fit, strong, willing and able to carry out physical work themselves.Should be self-motivated, resourceful, passionate about wildlife and able to live simply in a remote rural area.Preference will be given to someone with sound knowledge of the management of TOPS animals, knowledge of the Waterberg/Sourveld, knowledge of intensive breeding (sable and buffalo) and has experience in operating heavy equipment.Good contactable references and a clear criminal record are essential. KEY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:Must be a Team Player and have outstanding leadership skills.Excellent project and time management skills.Excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to implement and execute.Proven track record of delivering on commercial objectives.Strong knowledge of business and management principles with excellence in budgets, cost control and driving for results.Good reporting and communication skills.Ability to hire and develop great staff.Self-awareness, integrity and coaching skills and the awareness of general human resource issues to model the values of the Reserve.A good understanding of relevant legislation and corporate governance Analytical and practical problem solving skills.Experience in the hospitality and tourism sectors an advantage.The candidate would need to have managed lion, elephant and buffalo as well as intensive breeding projects. REMUNERATION(Negotiable dependent on experience, qualifications and suitability)R30, 000.00 – R40, 000.00 per month ADDITIONAL BENEFITS:Own good accomodation with minimum own room and bathroom.May consider a Game Reserve Manager where their partner wishes to live with them on the reserve.
