GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER – Free State
Our client is one of the world’s leading suppliers of rough diamonds and one of the largest independent diamond groups by resource.
Job Description:
The incumbent will lead the Geotechnical Section at Mine and will be responsible for implementing and co-ordinating all Geotechnical block cave massive mining functions for the current phase of the Mine as well as the new Underground Expansion Project.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Provide specialized discipline and project input into studies, planning and business cases
• Ensure legal compliance for production and projects within area of responsibility
• Provide technical consulting, troubleshooting and assurance services
• Plan and execute tasks to ensure the attainment of set programme deadlines and performance objectives
• Train and mentor junior staff
• Attend monthly planning meetings with production and project teams
• Ensure that all legal documentation is up to date i.e. COP’s and update support recommendations
Minimum Requirements:
• Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Engineering Geology, Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering
• Chamber of Mines Rock Engineering ticket
• More than five (5) years’ relevant experience in underground massive mining – preferably in a block cave and mechanized development environment
• Experience with Geological/Geotechnical Modelling software a definite advantage – please indicate on CV
• Valid drivers’ license (EB)
