A large multidisciplinary Construction company operating throughout South Africa, Africa and the Middle East is looking for suitably qualified Group Environmental Manager with a sound knowledge of environmental laws applicable to large construction projects and who are prepared to travel when necessary.

GROUP ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE

•Knowledge of and experience in the field of integrated sustainability management and reporting.
•South African Environmental law with knowledge of environmental law of other African countries a definite advantage.
•Thorough knowledge of sustainability best practices.
•Environmental auditing.
•GRI 4 reporting standards would be an advantage.

EXPERIENCE

•5 years’ experience in the Environmental field preferably in a construction industry environment will be an added advantage.
•Thorough experience in GRI reporting is essential.
•Experience in the field of Environmental legislative requirements.
•Established networks with relevant industry bodies.
•Auditing experience in environmental matters.

QUALIFICATIONS

•BSc degree or equivalent in Environmental discipline.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Head up and oversee environmental management and compliance for the Group.
•Lead and empower environmental managers at all Company operations.
•Develop and implement the Group’s environmental management strategy, policies and programmes
•Establish and develop strong networking relationships with Government departments and related industry associations.
•Co-ordinate all aspects of environmental risk assessment; pollution reduction, waste, emission, energy and water management and implement effective change management controls to maintain compliance.
•Track, benchmark and report on the Group’s environmental performance to the Executive
Provide insights into corporate risk management and participate in company-wide risk assessments relating to environmental issues.
•Develop and maintain a monitoring, verification and reporting system for all group sustainability indices.
•Manage corporate environment and sustainability audits and oversee the external assurance processes.
•Capacitate people on environmental requirements and create awareness on their role for improving sustainability performance.
•Develop and implement stakeholder engagement tools and report on the results.
•Provide guidance and forge good working relationships with the Business Units’ sustainability representatives
•Manage the collation of data on sustainability issues.
•Responsible for the production of annual group sustainability report.
