Cardinal Commissioning Services was established in 2010, and has grown constantly over the last five years into a dynamic consultancy firm with a broad base of clients and strong relationships within the building industry.

As a Johannesburg Based Consultancy, we are looking for an HVAC engineer with ECSA registration. The successful engineer will be employed by the consultancy, but will be working in the offices of one of our clients, in the Johannesburg City Centre. Secure parking will be made available to the employee. The employee will be situated in the clients’ office full time, and will represent the client in design, technical and site meetings.

Our client owns / leases multiple buildings and branches throughout South Africa. Our client also generates multiple new and refurbishment projects, on a monthly basis.

The contract will be from April - December 2015, and will be renewed on a year-to-year basis with the client.

Requirements for this position:

• Have BSc. Eng. (Mechanical) / B.Eng. Mechanical or B-tech Mechanical
• Professional registration with ECSA (Professional Engineer/ Technologist)
• Minimum of two year's work experience after registering with ECSA and a minimum of three years engineering experience of which must have been accrued working as an engineer in an engineering consulting company or in an operating company with project engineering or technical support duties.
• The successful candidate, is to be appointed as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:

• Be willing to learn and apply the client specifications for new and refurbishment building projects.
• Be able to provide the advice required for the professional design teams relating to the requirements of the client.
• The successful engineer will be ensuring that the technical requirements defined in the clients design specifications scope of works documentation is properly incorporated in the engineering deliverables. This will include but will not be limited to checking and commenting on all mechanical engineering deliverables for building services and miscellaneous mechanical equipment as required on each of the projects, which our client is involved with. This would include equipment specifications, general equipment arrangement drawings, all installation and shop drawings, input to PFDs, datasheets, equipment lists, tender enquiry documents, tender comparisons and commissioning documentation
• Participation in all engineering activities on behalf of our client, working closely with the client and all the other consultants on all the projects which our clients are involved with at any time,
• The successful engineer will need to have design back-ground in order to check or evaluate designs.
• The successful engineer will not be designing or writing specifications, but will be drawing up the required documentation, for the design team to understand the brief / scope of each project.
• The engineer will be required to evaluate whether the budget allowances are fair and in line with industry practices.
• The engineer will be provided with a laptop, which will be used for all the required projects.
• Even though the engineer will not be project managing the projects, s/he will be required to provide input, on behalf of the client if the process is not working correctly, or the incorrect decisions are made in the professional, technical or site meetings.
• Have effective interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills
• Effective computer skills e.g. Microsoft Office and mechanical engineering software.
• Possess a thorough understanding of HVAC projects. This includes engineering workflow and a broad understanding of the other design engineering disciplines, i.e. Process, Structural, Instrumentation and Electrical & Architectural.
• The engineer will be required to represent the client at after hour "black start" testing or any of the sites where after hour testing of generators, UPS's, chillers or HVAC need to be tested.
• The engineer will be required to understand how Data Centre HVAC systems function, how change control procedures function and how sensitive the procedures have to be maintained within a live data center environment.
