Our client is an Open Pit and Underground Base Metal and Chrome operation based in Mpumalanga

Minimum Requirements...
THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE ARE ESSENTIAL:
§ Grade 12/ Standard 10
§ Certificate in Occupational Hygiene/Environmental Control NQF 5
§ 4-5 years Occupational Hygiene/Environmental Control experience
§ Valid Driver’s License
§ Medical Fitness Certificate

THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS OR OPTIONAL:
§ Chamber of Mine Intermediate Certificate in Environmental Control

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED ARE AS FOLLOWS: Interpersonal and Planning skills Negotiating / persuasion skills

Job Specification...
ALTHOUGH NOT LIMITED TO, THE INCUMBENT WILL REPORT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT: OCCUPATIONAL AND HYGIENE AND THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
§ Conducting hygiene measurements for the Occupational Hygienist to compile an updated Health Risk Matrix
§ Measure and monitor underground ventilation arrangements (gas monitoring, dust, thermal stress, noise, illumination)
§ Conduct monthly measurements of working faces and development ends
§ Providing data for the compilation of the underground mine rescue plan and liaise with Mine Planning & Mine Engineering to compile the plan and obtain signatures
§ Monitoring of every underground: Workshop; Station area; Shaft bottom; Conveyor system; Crusher areas; Refuge Chamber; Pump station and Airflow survey
§ Establish and Implement the gravetric sampling programme
§ Ensure gravimetric sampling equipment are maintained in a serviceable condition and charged for daily use
§ Ensure sample cassettes are packed and send for analysis as per schedule to ensure results are being reported on at month end
§ Monitoring employees and contractors noise levels with noise dosimeters and mobile equipment
§ Maintain the noise register for stationary equipment on IMS with updated noise measurements as per DMR Milestones
§ Measure the illumination levels of all surface infrastructures, workshops, tipping points, conveyors, substations, etc. Surface surveys will be during nightshifts
§ Measure the lux levels of all mobile equipment as per MHSA requirements
§ Measure the illumination levels of all underground infrastructure, workshops, tipping points, conveyors, substations, etc.
§ Draft monthly hygiene awareness poster
§ Attend all forums as required
