Opportunity exists for an IT Enterprise Telecommunications Engineer based in Cape Town (12 month contract)
Salary = R 65 000 to R 85 000 p/m

Job Purpose:
IT Delivery and Support is responsible for the day-to-day support of IT Telecommunications Services, which may involve some or all of the following activities:
• Maintains the telecommunications network support process and checks that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures. Uses network management software and tools to investigate problems, collect performance statistics and create reports.
• Uses network management tools to determine network load and performance statistics. Creates reports and proposals for improvement. Checks that problems are managed in accordance with agreed standards and procedures. Contributes to the investigation and diagnosis of network problems, working with users, other staff and suppliers as appropriate. Implements agreed network changes and maintenance routines.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer-related field or equivalent work experience or technical degree.
- Microsoft Certified Professional, Cisco Certifications (MCSE, CCNA, CCIE and have worked on the following operating systems Windows 2003R2 /(64bit)/2008R2, Redhat Linux EL5)
- Substantial years of experience in telecommunications support and operations.
- Desirable knowledge of business work processes and applications system operations.
- Functional understanding and support experience of IT infrastructure in the following technology areas:
- Extensive knowledge of Ethernet Networks and all layers of the OSI model.
- Extensive knowledge of the following network protocols: (TCP/IP, SNMP, ICMP, UDP, Ethernet, etc.).
- Thorough understanding of Network connectivity and design (WAN/LAN/WLAN/VPN).
- Computer skills: networking, wireless networking, LAN & WAN, firewalls, modems, hubs, routers, switches. Experience with VoIP protocols and telephony is a plus.
- Experience with Cisco IOS and Windows OS is desirable.
- Experience with WAN networking technologies including MPLS.
- Experience with design, implementation and troubleshooting of IP network QoS policies supporting Real Time traffic.
- Telecommunications Monitoring and Diagnostic tools.

+/-100 Centrally hosted applications servers and 6 local in-country servers
Infrastructure Onsite Services Support Team : 29 and 3 Central Team

Principal Accountabilities:
•Uses network management systems software and appropriate analysis equipment to collect routine network load statistics, model performance, and create reports, including proposals for improvement.
•Analyses site survey reports and contributes to specifications of requirements and plans for installation and commissioning of hardware and software.
•Investigates and diagnoses complex network problems, working with users, other staff and suppliers as appropriate. Resolves such problems, co-operating with the capacity management function, to maintain overall network performance.
•Contributes to selection of standard procedures and tools, and carries out defined tasks associated with the planning, installation, upgrade, operation, control and maintenance of local and wide area networks for communication of data, voice, text or images.
•Gathers and records service level information. Produces statistics for use in measuring key performance indicators (KPIs).
•Ensures that documentation of the supported systems and software is available and in an appropriate form for those receiving calls. Ensures log entries of user contacts provide sufficient information for the resolution of subsequent faults and problems.
•Uses network management systems tools to determine network load and model performance statistics. Creates reports and proposals for improvement.
•Checks records to ensure that problems are managed in accordance with agreed standards and procedures. Ensures adherence to escalation procedures. Responds to escalated, complex and high impact problems in a timely fashion.
