IT Infrastructure Manager

Management level position in the department with a central role in the implementation and planning of the strategic goals of the department. The role is also responsible for the whole infrastructure in use at the company and the direct line management of the infrastructure team. This role will act as an escalation point for technical issues related to the infrastructure.

Infrastructure includes:

Physical and virtual network including devices and cabling
CCTV camera system
Physical and virtual servers
Operating systems for servers and desktops
All software except for ERP and CRM usage, setup and development
Desktop support (both physical and virtual and including laptops, desktops, tablets and phones used by employees for business)
Anti-virus and related security solutions (including functions that are outsourced like the central firewall)
E-mail servers and functionality
Backups
Assist in planning and take ownership of relevant parts of disaster recovery and business continuity policies
Monitoring of use of infrastructure within the parameters set by the IT policy on request from an Executive member of the company

Responsibilities:

Keep abreast of changes in standards, technologies and / or methodologies
Carry out administrative functions
Risk assessment and risk management as coordinated by the manager
Ensure security and confidentiality is maintained at all times
Give direction and guidance
Coach and mentor team members
Review assignments for accuracy and quality
Delegate responsibilities
Coordinate application of software releases
Assist with the development and execution of company and departmental policies related to area of responsibility
Attend meetings, trainings or seminars
Work with other departments
Day-to-day management of the Infrastructure support team including the planning and organising of team members effectively
Providing 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support across national offices
Take ownership of incidents and problems assigned to the department through to resolution
Provide timely and professional communication to all levels of the business
Analyse system logs and identify potential issues with computer systems
Perform routine audit of systems and software
Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
Install and configure new hardware and software
Add, remove, or update user account information, resetting passwords etc.
Answer technical queries and assist users across national offices
Ensure security and confidentiality is maintained at all times
Responsible for documenting the configuration of the system
Troubleshoot any reported problems
System performance tuning
Ensure that the network infrastructure is up and running
Configure, add, and delete file systems

Technical Responsibilities

The company has a fairly complex infrastructure consisting of a number of legacy systems integrated with the newer solutions as defined by the roadmap for the department.

Qualifications

Degree or diploma specialising in Information Technology or Information Systems
Certifications in two or more of the technologies:

Office 365
Azure
VMWare
Exchange
Active Directory
Storage
Network
Server Hardware
Operating System and MS Office
Desktop hardware
Mobile hardware (phones and tablets)
Mobile operating systems
Backup and Disaster Recovery

Experience

A minimum of 5 years in a senior technical support role managing and supporting complex infrastructure environments
Alternatively 5 to 10 years working in a senior capacity for a service provider supporting multiple customer environments
Preferably at least 2 years in a line management role

Knowledge

Fluent in Windows Server 2003-2016 management and support
Fully versed in infrastructure and networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, IPSec VPN)
Highly skilled in Microsoft Office 365 and Azure
Highly skilled in Microsoft Server technology including Active Directory
A working knowledge of ITIL will be beneficial
A clear understanding of what policies and documentation is required for the successful functioning of the infrastructure department
Knowledge and understanding of disaster recovery and business continuity (the differences and requirements)
In depth understanding of security requirements for a business (with reference to the IT infrastructure) and the practical application of measures and tools to provide the required level of security
