Private Hospital situated in Lyttleton in Pretoria is looking for a Junior Infection Control Co-Ordinator.

EDUCATION

A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree)
Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurs
Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable health care legislations

ROLE SUMMARY

The incumbent will be responsible for the Infection Control in the hospital. This includes the co-ordination of functions and activities related to the provision, promotion and assurance of infection control in consultation with relevant stakeholders. The Infection control co-ordinator will assume responsibility for motivating, supporting, mentoring and training thereby ensuring that an optimum contribution is made to the successful functioning of the hospital. This position will provide excellent opportunity for growth in the field of infection prevention.

KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Investigate negative incidents / adverse events and ensure appropriate capturing on IMS.
Liaise with Public Liability with regard to incidents of potential infection risk to the business
Timeous resolution of complaints and implementation of IPP Programmes.
Identify areas of non-compliance through clinical audits.
Remedial action to be implemented and assessed for effectiveness.
Participate in the antibiotic stewardship program
Is an member of the IPP committee
Case investigation, notification and follow-up of all notifiable diseases; telephonic ( immediate) and paper reporting to public health authorities
Provide information and advice to the hospital management regarding IPP issues.
Advise the SHE committee on IPP matters and antimicrobial patterns in the hospital
Consultation role: Consultation and advice as IPP arises.
Expected to cover OHS department in absence of OHS RN.
Comply with all BCA and Quality initiatives
Maintain customer intimacy through building relationships with doctors, nursing staff, suppliers and building patient loyalty
Build strategic inter-departmental relationships to help achieve business goals at departmental level within the hospital
Responsible for fostering an effective working relationship with service providers

Should have excellent communication and negotiating skills, teaching ability and organizational skills and be tenacious and able to tolerate high stress levels
Interest in infection prevention with the aim of gaining specialised knowledge and qualifications in the field
