Matric certificate, preferably tertiary Diploma or Certificate in Quality Control. 3 years or more in a Food Industry production / quality environment. Own reliable transport

KRA’s:
This position carries shared responsibility for the management food safety & quality processing activities.

PRODUCTION PLANNING
Liaise with the Production & QC Managers on planning of production to ensure correct issue of raw material, packaging & coding.
Work with Production Supervisors to meet planning targets as far as possible, where not impacted by downtime.

AUDITING, SUPERVISION & PARTICIPATION IN PRODUCTION ACTIVITIES
Assist Production Supervisors in ensuring that production plans are followed in every respect – issuing of stock, blending, ageing, extrusion, wrapping, metal detection, final packing, coding & placement into storage
Ensure cold chain is adequately met at all times due to the nature of the product being a perishable one
Ensure that where necessary, temperatures are monitored to avoid any non-conformances which can impact on food safety
Manage QC Inspectors’ checking of raw materials, ingredients, packaging, processing activities – weights, quality, coding, presence of foreign material etc.
Addition of ingredients as part of processes

ASSISTANCE IN MEETING EFFICIENCIES
Assist Production staff in ensuring that efficiencies are met wrt accurate blending, extrusion, re-work, freezing times & temperatures, flow-wrapping & the materials used, labour productivity
Encourage constant staff awareness of throughput & yield (product & packaging)
Ensure wastage of product & packaging is kept to a minimum at all times & assist in recording waste values to be used in trend analysis

DISCIPLINE & LABOUR RELATIONS
Proactively assist in maintaining discipline at all times, encouraging personnel to comply with company policies & to meet production targets within the confines of inspect quality & food safety.
Maintain strict but fair day-to-day labour relations with personnel
Be prepared to provide necessary information or to be involved in disciplinary action when required to do so.

PERSONAL HYGIENE
Ensure that factory hygiene and good sanitation practices are maintained as per the company’s documented food safety practices.
Ensure that strict controls are exercised over personal hygiene and protective clothing.
Ensure that access to High Risk production areas, is well controlled at all times throughout a shift.
Encourage constant awareness of good hygiene practices
Ensure that all persons entering High Risk areas follow company policies for access control & correct wearing of protective clothing – includes contractors & visitors, who can be asked to leave if they do not adhere to company food safety policies.

HOUSE-KEEPING & SANITATION
Assist in ensuring that the company’s house-keeping & sanitation program is followed in all areas of production & packing
Monitor house-keeping & sanitation practices on an ad hoc basis ie: inspect equipment, processing surfaces & areas yourself
Liaise closely with the your Senior QC Supervisor, as well as the QC Manager, Food Safety Officer and Microbiologist wrt product & environmental screening results

MAINTENANCE & INCIDENT MANAGEMENT
Assist in ensuring careful incident management to minimise downtime & avoid loss of product/packaging through quality & food safety non-conformances.

TRAINING
Assist your Production & QC Managers in co-ordinating on-the-job training for all production & QC functions, liaising with the QA: Technical Manager to provide accurate, detailed records of the training material, attendance details & post-training evaluation for competence.

RECORD-KEEPING
Ensure records completed by yourself & other QC staff & personnel, are accurately detailed & signed off as having been carefully reviewed.
Ensure records are submitted timeously to relevant staff or Management.
Ensure your personnel understand the implications of inaccurate, missing information, & missing signatures, as well as use of pencils, coloured pens & records that do not form part of the company’s Quality Management Systems

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY
Liaise with your QC Manager or the company’s Safety Officer, regarding OHS matters which may be reported to you.
Encourage awareness of unsafe practices within the production environment & ensure such practices are avoided.
Support your QC Manager & the company’s Safety Officer in providing time for conducting training & duties to personnel who may be part of the company’s Firefighting, First Aid & SHE Rep teams
Report operation of Forklifts & Reach Trucks by unlicensed drivers

FOOD SAFETY SYTEMS
Familiarise yourself fully with the company’s general food safety ethos, including, but not limited to, relevant policies, procedures, work instructions & other food safety system documentation & programs
Closely follow the company’s pre-requisite programs which support food safety eg: good sanitation, control of glass & hard plastics etc
Ensure Critical Control Points are very carefully monitored as part of the company’s HACCP studies.

SECURITY & LOSS CONTROL
Monitor & report unauthorised staff removal of product & other materials from the company’s premises.
Monitor & report general unauthorised practices which may lead to losses.
Assist Management, where required, in addressing security incidents

PRODUCT & PROCESS DEVELOPMENT
Assist your QC Manager, the company’s Product Development Specialist & other Management, with new product & process developments
Assist with conducting factory trials where required & provide accurate feedback in order to finalise developments.
Assist with preparation of samples for supply to potential customers
