LABORATORY SUPERVISOR (FOOD & ENVIRONMENT)
Laboratory Supervisor
The largest diagnostic pathology Laboratory in South Africa is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to monitor and strive to continuously improve the effectiveness of the quality system of the relevant food, water and environmental samples in the laboratory in accordance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GPL) and ISO 17025.
Key Job Responsibility:

To develop, maintain and review the Quality Manual and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) database to ensure that contents are aligned with the current food, water and environmental laboratory and ISO 17025 and that documentation is appropriate and reflects current national and international practice.
Ensure proper analysis of food, water and environmental samples using current and updated methods.
To develop and maintain a readily accessible system to control distribution of current SOP’s which can be readily retrieved in accordance with laboratory policy and to ensure compliance with ISO 17025 criteria.
To perform regular checks of all maintenance, QC and calibration logs and charts to ensure compliance with SOPS, and identify problems and propose corrective action as required.
To undertake regular intradepartmental vertical technical audits and interdepartmental audits to assess effectiveness and ensure continued improvement of the quality system in line with ISO 17025 and other regulatory body requirements.
To liaise with KZN Quality Assurance Division to facilitate external laboratory audits to ensure objective review of the quality system and corrective action of non-conformances raised.
To plan and monitor regular technical (and theoretical if appropriate) competency assessments of technical staff in order to identify training needs and in compliance with ISO 17025 requirements.
To participate in External Quality Assurance participation requirements of the department to ensure subscriptions are appropriate, adequate and cost-effective.
To facilitate regular QA and departmental meetings and co-ordinate annual management review meeting to ensure continued self-assessment.
To ensure a safe working environment and compliance with safety legislation by highlighting safety problems to the safety Officer.
To liaise with customers in order to resolve external service related issues and to promote a positive image of the laboratory as required.
To keep up to date with relevant, current and emerging research, methods and technologies.
Minimum requirements & key competency:

Qualifications required

3 year Relevant Diploma or degree in Biotechnology or Food Technology
Work experience required

5 years’ post qualification experience within an appropriate
Job related knowledge
