Employ and expand your vast experience in the successful implementation of maintenance projects in Smelter facilities, asset and infrastructure management and process equipment by joining a globally recognised refiner and precious metals leader that has been in operation for many years and values their workforce. Ideally the Maintenance Manager, Smelter Facilities will have a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree and 10-15 years’ related experience covering multiple disciplines; a GCC factories is also a requirement.

Reports to: General Manager: Smelter.
Reporting, total staff compliment: 40.
Job titles of direct reports: Foremen (Electrical & Instrumentation / Mechanical / General Site / Construction Services / Maintenance).
Primary purpose: The purpose of this role is asset and infrastructure management, maintenance and successful implementation of maintenance projects within the Smelter facilities, associated infrastructure and process equipment – all within approved schedules, timelines and budgets.

Major responsibilities:

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:

Manages the staff, contractors, service providers, processes and activities for maintaining all Smelter machinery to ensure safe, continual and efficient operation.
Oversees maintenance goal setting, activity scheduling, spares management, inspections, work performance and performance management to ensure measurable goals, proper workload distribution, goal satisfaction and effective staff performance management.
Monitors and continually improves maintenance processes and maintenance personnel performance to achieve enhanced levels of efficiency.
Ensures that staff is competently trained on statutory and mandatory training as may be determined from time to time.

STATUTORY COMPLIANCE:

Ensure statutory compliance with regards to machinery and be an assistant to GMR2.1 appointee.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY:

Ensures that planned and preventive maintenance are appropriately scheduled and accomplished and that emergency troubleshooting and maintenance support are readily available as needed.
Work in conjunction with the Reliability Manager in achieving maintenance key performance indicators.
Evaluates productivity and cost-effectiveness of workflow and equipment.
Ensure optimum plant availability by ensuring it remains at agreed targets if not more checking OEE and maintenance is carried out in the shortest possible time.
Design and produce value adding, relevant reports for management such as incident feedback reports, costing report, training reports, projects feedback reports.
Continuous improvement of systems and processes by identifying and solving problems, developing action plans, implementing new ideas and measuring efficiency.

OPERATIONAL BUDGET:

Manage, plan and administer the maintenance budget annually, explaining deviations and variances where required through reports to management.
Manage costs by ensuring that approved annual maintenance and projects budgets are adhered to and that costing is as efficient as possible.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

Initiate and/or provide input to projects that improve processes, through to execution stage by achieving the desired outcome, within budgets, on time and effective maintenance on the projects.
Manage smaller maintenance projects.

RISK MANAGEMENT:

Perform regular risk assessments and identification on the plant ensuring that standards are maintained and risk is minimised for staff, equipment, product and the company.

Job Qualification & Experience:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
· Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent tertiary qualification
· Government Certificate of Competency in Factories.

KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE:
· 10 to 15 years’ related experience in the Smelter processing plant.
· 10 to 15 years’ related knowledge of electrical, mechanical, chemical and instrumentation processes, power electronics and repair of high frequency furnaces and ARC furnaces, PLC’s and SCADA.
· Additional experience and qualifications above the minimum requirements will be to the applicant’s advantage.
